All a matter of timing!!
Grey 57 - May 6th, 2003 at 10:41 PM

Timing has featured a lot in my life this week. You know the type of thing, arrive at the pub 1 minute after happy hour finished, that stuff.
As some of you may know I have been searching for the sender units for a MotoMeter Rally Pack accessory for an Oval window Beetke. I have the gauge bit but no senders for the temp & fuel gauge. So it just sits in the dash doing nothing.
Over the past 2 years have been daily checking Samba , Ebay, here & various other places trying to find these elusive parts.
Well last week I was away interstate and didnt get the chance to make my nightly check. And guess what! The very bits I have searching for came up for sale in f**king Melb of all places.
Just to cap it all off they sold 1 day before I had a chance to contact the seller.
Jeez I am annoyed, so close!!!
Sorry just had to have a vent.

bajaman64 - May 6th, 2003 at 11:34 PM

I hate it when you look for ages, sometimes years, to find something and just when you buy some expensive part, ( no such thing as a CHEAP part is there? ) some bastard tells you he is selling just what you want, and just to rub salt into the wound, cheaper than you thought you would have to pay in the first place!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Its enough to make you :cry

grey, i am fairly sure that you can use VDO senders for a rally dash. i was talking about this prob with a friend who had a rally dash and he thought that they might have even been made by VDO (for motometer) as supposidly (sp?) this kind of thing was done at the time. he never tried it as he got out of vw's before fitting it into a car.
a good oldschool gauge shop/repairer should be able to tell you if it will work and which senders you will need.
the only prob might be that they look different from the origional senders.

Thanks for listening to the vent guys, appreciate it. I'm feeling better now :P

whatnow, I have been told that the VDO fuel guage sender will work, but the VDO oil temp sensors won't. The oil temp guage is wired up differently.

Got a lead on another fuel guage sender, so I'll see how that pans out.

Cheers guys
Dean

Welcome to the world of Vintage, Grey - these parts can be elusive at times. If you're really stuck, I'll be in Melbourne at the end of the year and can have a look at mods to make your gauges work. Otherwise, I've just got to advise you that real restorations take a lot of time (and money.)

he knows how long it takes, hes been looking for this long to see them available and they passed by b4 him.
Good Luck on the lead Glen!

Give this bloke a call. We use him in our workshop. Im told he is quite good with obscure stuff. Cant hurt to call. His name is AXLE and his number is 0414306470.
He specializes in speedos and speed limiters but he has helped a few guys with their bizzare mix of guages.
Good luck and let me know how you go.
