Another Manx nut!
DenzilC - May 7th, 2003 at 02:05 AM

G'day folks just a quick howdy from a new member.
My name's Denzil im 20 and after searching long and hard, i finally got myself my dream car: a Manx Buggy :D
She's a long wheelbase 4 seater powered by an 1800cc Subaru flat 4 (out of an EA81 wagon). She goes (went) like a dream, but ive just busted the diff, so im now searching for a new one :(
I am new to owning any sort of buggy, let alone a volkswagen, so if i come up with some stupid questions, please have a bit of tolerance for this slow learner ;)

I can't wait to join in on some cruises around the countryside as soon as i can get my girl back on the road.

Cheers
Denzil

BTW: the Manx magazine being talked about elsewhere on the forum looks like a bloody great idea, cant wait for it, and i wish there were more of the type!

Welcom fellow Manx Nut.... I see you bought the Manx from the guy next door to the Manx Club treasurer....

I reckon you want to go to a kombi transmission to solve the problems you are having.

The Manx Club is having a BBQ on Sat 31 May 03 , you should come along it is in Brissy.

Anyway congrats on the buggy, if you need any help let me know.

Baja Wes - May 7th, 2003 at 12:35 PM

And you probably want to join the manx club to get the latest newsletter which has a huge offroad tips section that should suit a newby buggy owner like you perfectly!

No doubt I will see you around Brissy :D

RISKY^VW - May 7th, 2003 at 12:38 PM

welcome DenzilC hope u have fun here the people around here are very helpful so all u have to do is ask!! search first ! :)
tho coz most tech probs have been talked about before

Buggy Boyz - May 7th, 2003 at 09:02 PM

It has been chopped and extended.

DenzilC - May 7th, 2003 at 11:38 PM

Yeah thats right, from the guy in springwood, who is friends with a workmate of mine. It's a small world!
He and a friend lengthened and did the conversion to subaru. Looks sweet to me, though there really isnt much room in the back for any but the SMALLEST of small people;)

A kombie trans? So far i have been steered away from going with that option. Would it just bolt on in place of the existing trans, and are they IRS?
I got a few bits and pieces today, to provide a temporary solution, but ill have to look into that, thanks for the suggestion.

Denzil

Buggy Boyz - May 8th, 2003 at 07:11 PM

Steered away from that option WTF ?? So who is telling you what ?? If you like the best bet would be to drop over and have a chat one weekend.
There should be about 15 or so buggies at my place and over 25 buggy heads on 31 May 03 at the Manx Club AGM and BBQ. Everyone is invited though so you should come along and have a chat / check out all teh different combinations.

manxed69 - May 8th, 2003 at 10:24 PM

Denzil,

It's good to hear that we've got another buggy nut on our hands, but where are the photos?

Don't worry about being new to anything that VW as you can learn alot from everybody here and in the Manx club. Also remember you only have to learn half a car (no body). My buggy was my first VW, and it has tought me alot about itself and the people that designed this great little car all those years ago.

Hope to see you at upcoming events.

Steven

DenzilC - May 9th, 2003 at 02:44 AM

Ok, after doing a little more research i see what you mean aboot the Kombi diff!! Will be looking into one of those. for the moment im going to put in a replacement for whats in there, until i get a bit of cash and space to play with :( Sounds like it would be a good time to give her a bit of a referbishment, and a lick of paint ;)

Manxed, ive got a few pictures on the computer but haven't mastered the art of picture attatchment yet. after reading the help-posts i still seem to be going round in circles after a dozzen attempts. I'll get it sooner or later ;)

The AGM on the 31st sounds like the place to be, id love to be there except i am working that weekend
What time does everything usually come to a close? The soonest i would be able to get there would be about 5pm :(
We'll see how we go, and keep the fingers crossed ;)

Denzil

Buggy Boyz - May 9th, 2003 at 09:03 AM

It will kick off at 2.00pm with teh AGM and I reckon the BBQ will start about 5ish so you would be right in time to get in, have a beer and talk some buggies.

We have a few people who can't make it till later on in the evening it don't matter, I am guessing we will be there till late.

Have a great big fireplace so we can sit around that and shoot the breeze for hours, in fact ig weather permits we may just have a fire in the paddock, no circle work though as the horses get spooked :<

I can say though you will not be dissappointed if you make the effort

The_Bronze. - May 10th, 2003 at 11:09 AM

Always great to meet new members and as I'm an offroad VW it's great to see more buggies getting about.

Look forward to catching up with you. I'll be up that way Xmas time if things go well. Couple of weeks in Agnes Water / 1770, then a while in Rocky and visit the Brissy area for a couple of day as well. Hope to go to the Woodford / Melaney Folk fest this newyear.

Congrats on the purchase. Keen to see how your plumbing has been done and what a lengthened Manx looks like. I was nearly going to by wrecked LWB Green manx as a kid but I agree with my Dad that 5k was a little too much with no motor and the side glass all smashed in and out of rego.

11CAB - May 10th, 2003 at 05:48 PM

Great to see another buggy guy out there.......Will catch up with you at the manx AGM if you make it.
Graham

DenzilC - May 11th, 2003 at 09:40 AM

I Look forward to meeting you all.
The_Bronze, sounds like you made the right decision! 5 grand sounds more than a little steep :O

Buggy Boyz - May 12th, 2003 at 03:54 PM

Great I look forward to meeting you. I will be the guy in the Manx Club T-shirt :) hopefully I will not be alone.

The address is Peppermint Dr, Cashmere. The Ira Buckby Rd West end. You can not miss the place just look for the club banner and a heap of buggies spilling out onto the footpath and road. ( You can only fit so many in a 12 bay shed :D and 2 /1/2/acres :D)

Should be a great arvo ....

Baja Wes - May 12th, 2003 at 04:59 PM

I'll be the one in the manx club shirt that looks like he's too young to drive or own such a nice car :D

well that's what Brad tells me anyway :P

Buggy Boyz - May 12th, 2003 at 10:57 PM

It wasn't me the lady in teh shop on Fraser was talking about when she said, excuse me I think that kid is stealing one of your VW buggy things ....

True story as Wes got in his baja and drove off.

He does look 12 also a true story, if he was a girl he would love the attention at his real age :P:cry

Baja Wes - May 13th, 2003 at 04:53 PM

The funny thing is one day I was out with Mike Sharp offroading around Blackduck 4WD park, and I saw this kid driving an awesome 2 door rangie ute with huge mudders and I said "man that kid looks about 12!".

Later on he got out and we asked him how old he was. He said "12".
Yes, what a guess :D

Jamox - May 13th, 2003 at 05:36 PM

Denzil! You better make every effort to get to the AGM or you may get struck by bad luck and get whisked over here to poxy old W.A. I got the worst luck ever and was born here.

I would love to get to all of your Eastern gatherings and events.

Why don't you all migrate over here to WAustralia for a few years

Baja Wes, i know what you mean, except everyone tells me i look heaps older than i am:( ahh who cares, we all know your only as old as the girl your feeling ;)
Jamox, i have to admit, its not a bad place at all. i havent been to that side of the country, but having toured england, i can tell you, were a lucky bunch of people to be living here, so much more fun :D
