My wife has spotted a Karmann Ghia and has decided that it may be purchase option than a Beetle. She really liked the convertible.
How do people find the Ghia over a Beetle? Am I better of spending my money on restoring a Ghia?
I ideally want a car from 69 to match my DOB, and as IRS kicked in that year, it makes it ideal.
The other dilemma is to source from Australia or import from the USA and convert to RHD.

If you like Ghias be prepared for RUST
and hard to get and expensive parts 
they are beautiful and desirable and rusty
. major rust traps in
front guards,sills,rear arches,spare wheel well and headlight bowls. bit of a punt on purchase as well because they can look like a million dollars
and then you find out thats how much it will cost to have the rust cut out.
( I know I have one=)
I've seen a few over the last 10 years, and they vary.read rust.
The later they are the better the build, but in my opinion the pre 70 looks the best.
We all like the upgrades made after 67 like IRS 12volt power disc brake front end all the usual beetle stuff.
It's not all doom and gloom! I found a good original rust free car from SA and in the years I've owned it, it has been the most reliable, economical
& fun car I have ever owned. Even if you buy one that needs a little work, if you plan on keeping it for a while I think a Karmann is a pretty sound
investment.

Next time you're down in Melbourne I'll show you a lot of Bugs with rust Dave, an unrealistic assumption or generalization, I believe it always
comes down to the history of the vehicle and how it was used/treated.
