I have always wanted my deck lid to open and close depending on heat/rain etc. I finally made one using 2 wind out electric seat motors from an xr6
turbo. It sits shut and opens the same amount as "stand off's".
With the rexy motor not needing air in the engine bay like an aircooled engine, it is more for look than anything....it looks pretty cool. Just
waiting to see someones face in traffic when it opens and shuts.
Three of the boys popped out today and i have to make three more which I will attatch via the stock mount points. The way they work means you can open
the lid the same as stock whether in or out.

Any chance you could put some pics up ? iv been thinking of this exact thing for aaaaaages. i want to use it in combination with a hydraulic piston to open the deck lid remotely.
That's a farken sweet idea!
VWCOOL's prolly worrying how he'll stay in business right about now!
I am acually just about to jump on a plane and will be away for a week. Will do when I get back. You can buy lineal actuators that move from 2 inches
to 10 depending on how much you want to spend.the little ones are about $125 each.

So has this kept the rain lip or did you grind this off?
Well done though

I have also done this with my turbo54. No rain lip. I would love to see how you have hinged it at the bottom to be released quick.
The way I have done this is totally simple for my car. I am keeping this one to myself until car is finished but let me say it auto opens and shuts
when the car thrashed.

pics pics pics...all talk and no evidence. :P
i was thinking of using a air flow meter or something, either underneath the car, or attached to front apron. and connecting it to a PCB, to program
it so when it gets to X meterage it'll activate the motors to open the decklid, and when it goes back below a certain X meterage it'd activate the
motors to close it again.
i suppose you could do it off engine RPM or speedometer as well. if you had a carputer onboard you could run it off multiple settings. IE open
when engine/oil temperature reach X amount. open it when sitting at a standstill (at an intersection, so the engine can breath a little better and
not heat up). open when an airflow sensor is activated at X amount.
even close when a rain sensor is activated (can be salvaged from late 90's mercedes, bmw, porsche for cheap).
so many ideas, so little time and money to implement them.

Aww, thanks babe! :kiss
Back from Noosa..how is it a break with 5 yr old boy and 2 1/2 yr old girl...
Wired the lid up properly today...little switch on dash if you hold it down the lid comes in and vice versa.
There is no rain lip although hinged right it could open down and out and maybe keep the lip. I was thinking it would be best temp operated on an
aircooled motor, either intake temp or oil temp. I was going to have it air intake temp sensative, however it will now be open always when driving
except when raining.
Glen, I have always loved your little hood jax too..:kiss
Matt
Hi Matt,
have you got any pics yet?
Cheers
Agreed we definately need pics mate.
I will let the cat out the bag, mine runs off boost referenced pnumatic shafts. Car comes on boost - out pops bootlid, when stopped at lights etc the
lid is in to keep the boys in blue off my back.

can someone post a pic please, this is very frustrating.
Nice one turbo 54, I knew you were dying to tell someone. How much psi does it take to switch the motor??
My revised design for mass production, with free installation by glen at the nats will also use a lineal motor.
The winder is smooth but a bit slow..takes 5 seconds.
Ill take a pic tomorrow...
Sounds interesting. Keep us posted please.

I think turbo 54's opens under boost then stays open till it stops...is that right.
I will take a pic tomorrow of the winding mechanism and how it attatches to the decklid. Mine has had the hinges cut out, although mounting off stock
points with my design would be heaps easier than what I did.
I want to make a kit to sell, just got to find some lineal motors for the right price..that will be the key!
matt
You got it boof, comes on and opens at a predesignated amount of boost like 4psi and stays open til I take my foot of the gas, as boost wont fall
beneath 4psi between gear changs it should stay open. I cant be bothered with motors etc, just extra weight. These are pnumatic push rods that work
like gas struts that hold bonnets up.

Suff pics, we want a movie
Nah fellas, he never did, it was an early april 1st wind up. UNLESS HE POSTS PICS :puke

So what happened to these pictures?
I know I am very interested in some of these action shots.
Maybe a movie
An Update?
Richard
sounds like a gee up.. no pics as of yet.. im sure theres a mobile phone about for a pic hey..
You can all wait til the cars finished, not gving away all secrets until its done. I told you how but I'm not going to show you.

Just to let you all know that this is coming along well. It is have getting the angles right for the lid to open smoothly but the mounts for the rams
should be on the CNC machine by the end of next week. Will post some pics of the mock up mounts and rams in the next couple of days.
