Joanne Lees 68 Kombi
Rural Baja - March 28th, 2007 at 04:18 PM
A couple of weeks ago on that Peter Falconio movie, i just thought id say that the Australian Film Cooperation stuffed up in the model of the kombi.
The actual kombi was a 1968 as it had a wide 5 beetle stud pattern and small split window taillights, now thw one in the movie was a 1971 with little
5 stud wheels, big taillights and flat hubcaps. To prove the purists wrong however, the Australian Film Cooperation or the producer had a 14inch wide
5 beetle wheel fitted on the front to prove us wrong lol. Didn't work for me though but overall not a bad yarn. I would like to know what happened to
the og kombi. It was a nice model lowlight in good nick and was very attractive in orange with a white stripe.
Cheers Will.

If it was a 71 it would have the little tail lights, as the big tail lights started on the 72 models?

like someone cares??????
BrisDubba - March 28th, 2007 at 06:01 PM
It must be time to find a new interest - I noticed the spare wheel out the front was wrong... as for the original it couldnt have been too good- there
was a loud backfire noise coming from the back of it when the last owner had it.. some bloke had even waved them down to tell them about sparks

A friend of mine used to own that kombi and did a few trips away in it and sold it up the east coast, spooky!

They probably didn't even use Bradley John Murdoch as Himself either... It's just crazy... I mean, he's sitting in a room doing nothing, it's not
like he wasn't available for the part.
What is the film industry coming to?
megalania - March 29th, 2007 at 07:34 AM
Thats if he even did it. I still have my doubts.
Rural Baja - March 29th, 2007 at 01:38 PM
SO they actual car went......
Was still a good looking Kombi though.
Motor did sound sick and it must of been a 72 as it had bigger taillights.
My flash trim came from a big role of stick on chrome that was souced from rare spares in Launceston. Is the same size as the og beetle chrome and
even up close some VW blokes think its real

omg, I think I have stooped too low, i fear I may be twisting the words of others for my own amusement....Actually bruce can you tell me the most
effective method of getting 'sparks' to shoot from the back of a dub? I already know how to turn a baja into a flame thrower... admittedly a bit
too-oo much in inner city traffic, but an 'intermittent spark' effect would be fabbo for festy... i kept scaring the ricers with my 'rich
mix/dodgey stromberg plunger/ floor it with twin cannons' phase.......but 'friendly sparks and backfires' sounds cool............
:kiss aww oh my bruce have I offended u? feel free to u2u me with ur grievances :sandrine

Ich fahre ein Kdf ein Tag - March 30th, 2007 at 01:05 PM
Your all wrong. The people that financed the movie killed Falconio to make the movie. There is a lot of bucks to be made out there.
The dick they ended up charging was a Kombi hater so he deserves to go to jail.

F#ck yeah.
Schmoburger - March 31st, 2007 at 07:07 PM
Re the sparks and such.... If I recall, I read that Falconio spent a rather large sum of money and put a lot of hard yakka into getting the Kombi
ready for their trip.
Also, last I heard, the guy that pulled them over and said there were sparks from the zorst WAS BRADLEY FRIKKIN JOHN MURDOCH! :duh
I'm sure the Kombi was fine... Murdoch just made the bit up about the sparks to get Falconio where he wanted him... outside.
On a different note, the whole saga stinks of fish.
I've been doing some digging to find out what became of the Kombi for a while, as it seemed like a good clean example when they started out.

I think I may have stumbled across the answer to the combi in questions possible location---
Irish police are being handicapped in a search for a stolen van because they cannot issue a description.
It's a Special Branch vehicle and they don't want the public to know what it looks like.
