Harrington S/S bumpas--- Ltd group buy-- -maybe ???
BASHOdi - April 5th, 2007 at 11:32 AM

Hi Guys,
I've been chattin with Harrington's about thier stainless steel towel rails and as an idle thought I asked them what they would charge me per set if I were to buy 5 sets--obviously fronts and rears , I did'nt mention AVD or anyother affiliation before anyone jumps up and down about that one, anyway the figure is Aus$549 per set all air frieghted to one address here in Australia ,heres a link so you can have a nosey if you're interested, http://www.groupharrington.com/  they've got some good stuff from the look of it , anyway is anyone interested in maybe a group buy-I'll take one set--so it would need 4 more to get the deal , don't get me wrong I'm not pushin this it's just something that came up I thought could be of interest given that the best price I could find on rechroming a full set was $740 + frieght/ courier if I did'nt want to spend the better part of a day to--ing and fro--ing the things myself---Oh yeh --and not counting the cost of the bumper set as well.
I have kept a copy of all the emails to an fro with Harringtons if anyone needs to sight them and as an idle thought my company is Triple-D Media if anyone wants to do a company search--and no--we don't have anything to do with motor vehicles except for me spending far to much on them---like the majority of us I suspect,
Oh yeh the stainless it 1.5mm I couldn't find the spec in thier stuff so I asked and the price is the one they gave me not + a mark up.
If anyones interested post or give me a hoy,
Cheers ,
:beer
Al.

I've just noticed these on fleebay the buy now price is $699+ $99 frieght again I'm not pushin these--just noticin'-Al .

Moderators--I'm not sure whether this should be in parts F/S & wanted etc or what so I've duped it .
Cheers , Al

Hi Nick,
Have a look round the Harrington link in the leading paragraph they do a couple of different types they're all polished and I believe have a very good finish, these are solid stainless not plated at all I'm just interested in the towel rails cause thats what I want ,

Back in the good old days.... middle of the 60s...

standard Beetles had painted blade bumpers...

then the Custom Beetle had stainless steel bumpers..
no overriders...

so I'm presuming stainless steel was cheaper than chrome back then....??

Good quality polished stainless steel...

Doesn't rust.....

and looks as good as chrome....

it could also be stronger than chromed steel ????

Hi Lee,
interesting observations about the stainless mate, the quaterlight frames on my car --64-- are stainless--but the door handles cast alloy, go figure, probably easier to throw the cast in alloy than steel--good points to remember--no rusty and dents can be knocked out and repolished--wouldn't know on the tensile strength though,
Cheers, Al .

Here is a link with pics,
The bars are not chrome, but highly polished & are etch primed and painted in black 2 pack on the back. They do US style with large overrider's & towel rails, euro style with the small overrider's and plain blade with no overrider's.

They also have bumpers for late & early Bay Kombies as well as Karmann Ghia's.

Have a look at their UK ebay store, they do lots of other cars as well and have some nice restored Lambretta's for sale.

from the pics - the euro style and the blade style look like the same bar. there are 4 holes in each bar regardless so could position overiders further apart on the rear and closer on the front. or whichever way. but there will be two spare holes in either case from the look of it...

still seems more coste effective than getting a bar straightened/knocked out etc for $x then rechroming once straight and spending $800.

strongly thinking about this

BASHOdi - April 22nd, 2007 at 03:57 PM

OK guys
I only got the price for 5 sets of towel rails and some people want blades, some with overiders etc so that we get the best price --and the right price---- and if your dead set serious em me on--- dialbashford@bigpond.com--- with exactly what you want--probably best to have a look at the Harrington site first--give me the Harrington description and part No if there is one along with your contact No.
I'll get them all together and EM Harringtons with the list to get the prices for the buy.
I'll then email each of you with a copy of thier reply and also post it on here.
Please ONLY GO ON THE LIST IF YOU ARE SERIOUS AND CAN AFFORD THEM, DONT EVEN GO NEAR IT IF YOU'RE THINKING OF SELLING THE CAR OR DROPPING OUT WHATEVER, THE PRICE WE GET WILL DEPEND ON THE QUANTITY WE BUY AND IF YOU DIP OUT YOU WILL BE SCREWING WITH EVERYONE ON THE LIST WHO IS SERIOUS.
If everyone is happy and confirms thier order I'll set up a bank account for payment to go into-- we all pay-- Harringtons gets the order and payment and I'll get the bumpers delivered to me and resend them here in Australia.
I'm away in Singapore the week after next for 10 days so if you want me to get the ball rolling before I go you'd best em me pretty quickly-- if your not fussed --I'll fix it all up when I get back--which quite honestly I'd prefer,
Cheers,

Good point,
I've already posted my company name -this is not a trading name , it's a regeistered company so it's pretty easy to run a company search , everyone who needs it will have my home address and Ph NoS and before anyone sends me any money.
I suggest that some people who are known to others call round to visit me as well .
I have to say I'm not in this for a profit niether am I in the motor business .
I'll be gettin a set of new bumpers $200 cheaper than any other way that I've found so far, which is my motivation but I'm not to keen on a whole bunch of rootin around iether to do it and have actualy been thinking of having my shitty south American or wherever the fark they're from rust in three seconds flat if a dog pisses on em bumpups sprayed with a good baked enamel probly cost me a couple of hundred for a good job look neat ---and---be a bit different .
Anyway hope that answers your (absolutely justified) worries,
Cheers,

I think thats a great idea but I doubt Harringtons will, the idea of a group buy is that to get the discount (quite a substantial one in this instance) means placing one order, making one payment and the supplier making one delivery to one drop of point.
And as for individual payments which I think is fine I doubt Harringtons--or any other supplier-- will let a shipment go until all payments are received so possible further problems there ?? and again it would be to one point of delivery , there's still the repackaging and resending to be done ----and costs money -much as I like the idea I dont think the logistics would work out.
Over to you,
Cheers ,
Al.

Hi Jase,
mate I havent followed it up since I came back from Singapore a couple of weeks ago, I'm happy to go with this if there's interest, I'll take a set of towel rails straight off so it needs 4 other people to be in it to get the group buy to happen.
I can post a fresh start to this if there's people serious about it , I'm not interested in doing more than 5 sets first time round, I'm not a dealer, I'm just interested in getting a $200 discount on a $700 item which I want.
I already posted how it can work , but like I said perhaps I should post again with a fresh start just for the people who deffinately want to proceed.
What d'ya rekon ??
Cheers,
:beer
