Hi all
Picked up this tacho on the weekend, and just wondering if anyone has seen one before? Any idea when it was made? It looks old.. and the electrics are
very basic looking!
Any info would be great!
(I already asked this in a post in the tech section but thought i might have more luck here)
By looking at the pic I"d say late 70's to very early 80's. I have a Smith's tacho on an old Honda that my Dad and i have and it looks very
similiar to that and he bought it late 70's for a car at the time. The one in the pic I would say is a copy of the Smith's Tacho I have. Switch on
the back is to switch from 4 cylinder to 2 cylinder etc etc to suit the engine configuration on the car you're putting in on.

another guess. I think the label must mean 4 stroke 4 cyl - 2stroke 2 cylinder / 4 stroke 6 cylinder - 2 stroke 3 cylinder. It looks pretty much same as older VDO tachos but I've never seen a japanese one.
red = switched positive. piggy back into headlight etc
black = ground
green = negative side of coil
white = dash lights
Yes,
KMART used to sell all sorts of car parts back in the 70s...
quality was OK too...

Headlight fuse was just an example. You're right, anywhere that get power when ignition is on, but not off. Your stereo is probbaly another good place. If its not a switched power source you'll drain your battery albeit slowly when switched off.
I would never fit that to a car, just beacause it has kmart printed on the front lol.
