getting near the end of the make-over of my daughters bug and have realised the bumpers are up the creek chrome wise and budget dosent allow newer
ones at the moment ,just wondering which is the best way to go ,colour code them black like the car with red stripe through the middle or i have some
wheel silver and silver paint them
this is the bumper on the front of the car when bought
this is the beetle now
thanks for any input

honestly chrome is a pain in the ass to paint over or smooth off once it is pitting and peeling, better to head to a wrecker and source a reasonable
secondhand pair,
if you want to go ahead with the painting the black with red pinstripe would look cool, but be warned it will be a horrible process to get it looking
half decent.
I'd go with your suggestion of black with a red pin stripe.:thumb

leave it.. rat it.. hmmm noice..
is that silver stripe on the car painted on? if so a silver stripe on the black bumpers would look the coolest
it will have the chrome strips back on and the wheels will be red as well, just the bumpers are rusty so thats why i ask ,till funds allow for shiny
chrome ones
Is it too late to californanise it strange word to spell "californanise"????
Drop the front and californanise it.....
No bumpers look the goods. Otherwise how about a small nudge bar at front sort of baja style or other??
oh and u cant go wrong with flat black.....

Deff black with red stripe.

red with black stripe!! that would look cool
What about hammer-tone silver??
I would just wait till you can get decent set of bumpers. If you insist on painting it, I suggest some other colour than silver.
Don't paint it. Unless you can strip the chrome off completely it will look crappy. And none of those colour combinations are going to work with the
hotrod look you've got IMHO.
You can often clean the surface rust off with something like gumption or Jif (abrasive bathroom cleaner) unless it's peeling really badly. That said,
you're really just putting off the inevitable coz I think we both know, it's really time for...
Shiny New Bumpers
Tell your daughter to stop buying clothes and start saving.

There are cheap, 2nd hand, reasonable sets out there mate. I know i sold mine off cheap... I even traded my rear 1500 bumper for a crappy steering
wheel, which i threw away any way...
keep your eyes open. put up a want to buy thread on avd and go to the swap meets. email any contacts or people you know that know of people etc.
Black with red would look alright i rekon. I'm a chrome fan though, but that would still look sweet... If you got something that can really do some
nice abrasing (power tools) to your bumpers, you could get the chrome off... Its not impossible. If the trouble is money, then this would be the
cheaper way. just more elbow grease.
But yea, ur daughter's gonna have a nice ride when this things finished. Lookin' sweet already :P. good on ya mate.

well with a few days of working on him (that was my holidays)Gerard is now like this
and my daughter had the hide to say he is to shiny,he looks good from a distance ,but there is still bits of orange peel look, but then again i paid
about $200 for paint and the rest was my labour
next to find some front seats and running boards and eventually some shiny chrome bumpers
Polishing has made a big difference looks great, and only $200 for paint well done cheers.
I really like that colour scheme. Very classy. Nice work.
