Ok, I have the chance to buy this notch, it is a '65 1500 with the side draft carb.
The body is very clean with the only rust I could find is in the left hand front bulkhead. Small dent behind lh blinker and side swipe on the lh door
otherwise spotless body.
Interior is showing it's age a little, door rubber are shot
Engine is smokey
Swingaxle boots are stuffed
Top front trailing arms are moving, I think the sway bar is broken or lose at one end.
and the bumpers as you see them.
What is a good price for this?
It is hard to price a car unseen. If body and paint OK I reckon between $1000 and $2000.Early type 3's are becoming rare.
As much as your willing to pay that will be a good price
man get it thats sweet ,offer him $800 alot of work to be done ,if your in love with it $1500
Looks pretty clean for an early notch. Mechanical problems are easilly fixed but body repairs can be expensive as good panels are reasonably hard to
source. If it aint rusted to buggery it would make a fine project. Good luck:thumb

looks like a sweet ride, has it been restoed sometime in the past? if so make sure you check the sills and roofline and pan for dodgy-ness (bubbles,
lumps etc) just to be sure theres nothign hiding under the paint, but i recon if its as rust free as you say, the damage to the side is only inor and
the bumpers were straight i would be happy to part with upto 2K for it, as is maybe $1000 to $1500 would be good and ir econ you could walk away
happy.
hard to say though with type 3s, as they are so much less known then their siblings they are never going to be as valuable as other dubs of the same
condition (not that that matters when they are cooler and better to drive )
Just got it for $2000.
good on you! looking foward to seeing more pics
welldone
Good score!! Bring it over and we'll "mate it":duh with the 411,or just dump a Subi in it.
:P
One of my autos sounds good but I think I'll leave it stock for now.
Quick update. Just picked it up, ran out of fuel just as I got the front wheels in my driveway and had to drive it in on the starter.
Some goodies
Looks like a great buy. Well done

Yes, it's a little rough in places but a solid car. I'm going out to Wilson's (local vw wrecker) tomorrow as he has what looks to be an early notch
in his yard. I'll see if it has some straight bumpers and a few other little things.
good stuff mate. They are uncommon, but not that rare. I saw one very much like yours in country NSW last week. there was a lady in her late 60s driving round and it looked like it was still going strong despite the patina on the bootlid and roof. It will make a great rat one day. I won't tell anyone where it is, cause the owner looked like she was really enjoying it and it had plenty left in it. No doubt someone from the area knows about it and will snap it up when she's ready to sell it. Enjoy yours.

It's got the single sidedraft carb, the engine has stopped smoking as much since I turned the idle mixture screw in about 6 turns. It has been backfiring and then draging oil back in out of the aircleaner. I think it just needs a good run. I put in a quick shift today and replaced the shift coupling, big inprovement!
I am running the same carb much to the dismay of several people I know. Tuning the buggers is just a way of life...get used to it.:cry Mine has been backfiring and farting like a grumpy 40y.old. I think the ol' girl needs some TLC and a good wash. Until then, a good slap usually shows them whos boss..
