Howdy, I am looking for anybody who has recently imported a car from overseas and can give some advice on what to do, and who to go through... or who not to go through. I already own the car(s) in question and need to get them to Melbourne. transportation to the Oakland shipyard is not an issue. I am debating on bringing one at a time for storage reasons, unless it is drastically cheaper to bring two at a time. One is driveable and the other has driveability and weatherproof issues and so basically needs to be containered. I am in more of a hurry for the driveable one. I have looked at the government website and it has left me with more questions than answers. I would love to hear from anybody with experience...especially a good experince. Cheers!

youve hear off all the stories of doing it yourself to save money is a load of hogwash
just one mistake will cost more than using and agent to start with as ive used several for many years and touch wood ive been never been burnt

Mate grab some back copys of High Performance Imports, you'll find them in any half way decent newsagents--they have specials with the current issue and a couple of back copy's for $9.95 or so, you'll find a whole bunch of importers just ichin for your buisiness in em,

I have used these guys only once but as thats all they do import and export cars(basically). Worse case scenario is they put u onto someone else that can help.
Everyone says import is expensive but i will say most times it is cheaper than buying or having work done here in Aus.

Get the seller to do u a favour if possible and make the import cost less than 1000 Aus dollars, no import tax below this threshold.
If possible ask about the cleaning service, if needed, as searching for someone to do it can be time consuming and more than often cost more than the exporter/importer can have it done at.
Ring Australian Customs and ask question's and inform them of your actions and they will tell u whats what.
Do some homework before commiting to anything.
Ring around for quotes, the difference in money to u willl be staggering some hard yards can save u over 1200 bucks.
Make sure you have all the needed documentation for Customs and Imports.

I called Nick Smith and he quoted me $3000 AU per car excluding Tax...the only problem is that is from Long Beach. I am looking for Oakland if possible. I am owner of both cars already...one for 8 yrs and one for 2 years. They are both spotless... not a speck of anything that should hold up customs. I did pay less than $1000 for each car, but I think customs might not accept that valuation on a $50k car. I will check out white knight next.
