seeing the enthusiasm onsites like retrorides.com and Melburg Luft, and the lack of support in australia for young (anyone under 55 seems to be young
at alot of classic car shows) enthusiasts driving UNIQUE cars, i am putting foward an idea.
at the end of January/ start of Febuary next year I plan on organising an all-makes car show focused on pre 1980 rides, whether stock/near stock, old
school custom or rat ride. I want to showcase unique custom work, cars like what you guys own on here, or the likes of Volkommens sweet rides, i want
to see Vdubs sitting next to Commers sitting next to Volvo Amazons, ground scraping FE Holdens adn lowrider Lada Niva's.
I want to create a show environment where there are no boundairies, basically i want to make the sort of show that I would like to go to.
I am looking now for support for the idea and help along the way, people to spread the word and help out with the technical side of things, currently
i am considering Lilydale Fairgrounds as a venue, i have a fair few connections with the local music industry, so i am thinking of having a stage
playing punk/rock/rockabilly/beats all day, maybe having the show running from 10 til 5 so no-body has to get out of bed early adn everyone has a
chance to see the show, displays by pinstripers, artists etc, basically a fun community vibe emphasising all that is cool in the car culture and the
cultures it links into, with prizes for originallity, quality, mechanics and aesthetics, not necessarily for shinyness of paint and least dust on the
dash.
any support with this greatly appreciated, especially in regards to advertising and potentially fundraising, and any ideas for a namefor the show also
much appreciated.

Count me in, and good luck with all the organisation. I think this will create a lot of interest. Well done, good ideas.

Early Daze Oldskool Festival?
thanks guys for the support, at the moment i am looking for cars to show (obviously) also anyone who would be interested in putting on some sort of display (pinstriping, lowering, airbrushing, graf, anything interesting), possibly catering (kombicoffee?), any businesses that would be interested in doing a display (speed parts shops, custom/resto shops, Delux and Volkommen, if you boys are up for it?) and any helpful suggestions. once i have got a confirmed venue and date I will be lookign for everyone to spread the word as far as possible about this to make this show as big as it can be. Also, anyone interested in sponsoring (VW club vic?) once the ball is rolling any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Grey57 may be a good contact for the VWCV as he is the assnt. president. I think it would be great for the VW community to get right behind something
like this and lead the charge rather than just be considered a novelty act at hot rod shows etc. I think it would be great to show the wider old
school community how cool a lowered dub really is and the fantastic work produced by Volkommen and Delux crews. I think the Melbourne scene has
really kicked up a few notches (pardon the pun) in recent times and it can only be considered a good thing for the broader VW community in promoting
dubs and generating interest in them.

does Slorida's sound like a good name? sorta makes it the antithesis of certain other car cultures.

Delux would be happy to help in any way possible. I have an extremely wide set of contacts in the auto performance industry, not just VW. Send me (SASHA) a u2u and I will forward you my number.

cheers Dr Pepper, I've now sent off applications for a dozen different venues, just waiting for a positive responce so i can lock in a venue and date and get the ball rolling.
To anyone who is watching this thread, the date is now fairly close to being locked down as Saturday 2nd Febuary 2008, and I am currently in negotiation with 3 venues, so hopefully the day and venue will be locked in by the end of next week.
Sounds great Ryan A great sort of alternative to the usual shows.
If this goes ahead I'm there, sounds like a great idea.
just awaiting paperwork from the venue
