OZ split campervan - is there such a beast?

I have a bay campervan but would like a split one. Were there any oz conversions? Does anybody want to swap? :D:D:D

I know there are US split campers because almost everyone on the ShopTalkForums seems to have one. :puke

from my memory of the 60's most of the campers were brought over by tourists, the only Australian ones I saw that were professionally done had standard roof, rather than pop top & now over time would be hard to recognize, hope this helps a bit

I had a split camper about 10 years ago. It was done out all wooden inside [quite a nice fit], with fold down table, sink, and space for cooker. It was up around the Central Coast of NSW, but I believe was wrecked by a later owner. There were no official stamps on it that I can remember, I think it was a very tidy, backyard job.

i had one and have changed it back to a "normal" Bus. took off the pop-top and put in a rag top slider. Heaps better and looks better too.

i saw one a while back in NSW, had a later small poptop Trakka conversion, done in the 70s, but still a split camper.

Trakka conversion where the only VW contracted camper conversions for aussies kombi's weather they where done in splitties im not sure! but the best camper conversion for a splitty is westfalia

kombi campers of south australia bought split kombi standard window vans and fitted camping interiors. 2 bunks up top and basic fitout below. quite a few still floating around down here.:bounce

I sold a pop top 66 camper for a local guy in Tas a couple of years back, It went to Geelong, was a beige colour and looked factory fitted. Was in perfect nick for $4800. No one here wanted it as splitties weren't popular with the locals. volma1

Sorry forgot I know of a couple more in Tas. Rick has a basket case(lots of rust in lower sections and floor) with good poptop 67 in Zeehan and Helmut has a Dormobile early sixties in a shed at Sheffield. volma1

VW Australia contracted a Adelaide based company E Sopru to camperise vans under contract for them in 1967, these vans could be ordered through a VW dealer.
Other converters were.
Trakka
Dormobile
Sunliner
Swagman
Lannock motors also contracted a company to convert Bay window's into high top's using a fibre glass roof.
Im sure there were more but these are just the ones I know! dose anyone know any more?
