Mark as the old saying goes "it is only worth what some one wil pay" but around 3 to 400 is fair depending on condition.

Mr westwood is getting ripped off. :P Pick'n'payless wreckers down here sell them for $150. I've bought two for that price. I'm sure you could get one cheaper if you looked. 1600 Kombi boxes are even cheaper.

yeah, but you gotta wrestle them out of the car yourself... has PnP put the prices up? $150 is double wot I last paid!

pete wood - September 8th, 2007 at 03:20 PM

nup, but maybe kombi boxes are more than beetle boxes.

btw, i cut 2 wires and mine fell out. someone else had done all the hard work and then given up!

OZ Towdster - September 8th, 2007 at 03:27 PM

Well MR Wood you better send me a few because people up here will pay up to $600 for a 2lt box so what can you get me???

Finding one without a rooted reverse gear,
and loose mainshaft bearing,
and worn nose cone,
and worn out shift ball,
and...?
is the hard part.
Remember we are talking about cars that are 32 years old(1800) or more.

An unknown core is worth zero to 50.
A quality rebuild is between 1000 and 1500 depending on parts.
Take your pick from that range.

If you are selling an unknown core try for 150.
If it is a great tested one try for 600.

There are many stories out there about bargains,
but 350 is a common story about fair condition used core.

Thanks for the replys. I was thinking $300 was a fair price.

Craig Torrens - September 9th, 2007 at 08:36 PM
