Does anyone know a good way to get rid of clean fill?
Jay_1965vw - September 11th, 2007 at 09:39 AM

We've dug about 3m of clean fill out of the garden where the new shed and path are, but I don't really want to pay to take it to the tip. Does anyone have any brilliant ideas on how to get rid of it?

(If anyone wants it, I'm in eastern Melbourne)

Thanks :D

vw54 - September 11th, 2007 at 10:42 AM

cram - September 11th, 2007 at 02:13 PM

So do I! only a bit further up the road...
Seriously, find someone who wants some but doesn't want to pay for it...

Jay_1965vw - September 11th, 2007 at 02:19 PM

Ok, but how do I find someone who wants it? :D

I put up a sign on the front fence and it was gone with in a week,
council's used to have a list on fill and to be filled??

Jay_1965vw - September 11th, 2007 at 03:25 PM

Sign on front fence sounds good, except I'm in a dead end street. Not too much passing traffic.
I've just found out about the council thing, am going to give them a ring to find out.

Thanks all for your help!

call a landscaper it will be gone in a week

or top dress your lawn with it

or make a raised vege patch

or spread it under the house

or put it in your pocket when you go for a walk, and share it with everyone

Hi

I could give you recipes containing soil, then you could eat your way through it or maybe make a mud brick & dung shed.

Steve

Get your kids to sell some mud pies for $1 each?

555bug - September 11th, 2007 at 10:53 PM

call the cops and tell them you killed people and buried them in it, they will take it all away :) and should laugh when you tell them you were just kidding

*did* - September 11th, 2007 at 11:15 PM

be careful about putting it on other peoples properties. sometimes planning permits are required for filling. just a heads up.

also, another heads up for people, some earthworks contractors avoid the cost of paying for disposal of fill by advertising it as 'free fill delivered'. many people have fallen for this and got stung later when the council shows up and tells them they have to remove the fill.

vw54 - September 12th, 2007 at 06:47 AM

If your house is up on piers then you could spread it out under the house evenly

pangalactic - September 12th, 2007 at 07:04 AM

Or.. you could get inspired by the lads from 'the great escape', put the dirt in specially concealed pockets in your pants, when walking about to the shops to get a chiko roll you can discreetly release the dirt. good enough for steve mcqueen, good enough for me. only downside is that if you get caught you will probably get shot by someone called hans.

cram - September 12th, 2007 at 07:43 AM

I was waiting for someone to say just dig a hole and bury it.....

Jay_1965vw - September 12th, 2007 at 08:43 AM

Ok, have rung the council, who have a clean fill disposal list. There's only one place on it but it is MILES away. Not worth the petrol to tow it there. Got onto the website of the people who have that site, and there is another one close to me, but it is $40 +GST per trailer load. Same as taking it to the tip (which is closer).

So much for that!

vw54 - September 12th, 2007 at 09:32 AM

Jay

your lucky yr not in Sydney it would be $120 per ton minimum

Jay_1965vw - September 12th, 2007 at 09:36 AM

If I was in Sydney I could give it to you!!!

1303Steve - September 12th, 2007 at 10:02 AM

Hey Jay

You can always dry the dirt, wait for windy day and throw it in the air.

Steve

hanktheplank - September 24th, 2007 at 10:15 AM

Jay,
I am in South Melbourne and could use some fill. My trailer holds about 1.3M, so I would take at least that much off your hands if you still have this available.

U2U me or send me an email if you are keen............. JRWjr

helbus - September 24th, 2007 at 10:56 AM

Don't worry Jay, I know how you feel. I have had about 30 cubic metres of dirt on the front lawn slowly decreasing in size over the last few months. I tried the council too, and no help. I am down to about 10m now, and I am just going to pay to get rid of it. The excavator guy has more digging to do, and he can do free tipping of clean dirt out in Coldstream, but it is just the cost of the trucking I have to do.

ancientbugger - September 24th, 2007 at 02:49 PM

Put a sign up saying "Do not touch" and the next morning it will have disappeared!

grogy - September 24th, 2007 at 05:14 PM

there was a sign asking for clean fill on the right side of center rd before u get to warrigal rd [heading to the city] just before the hire place opposite those small shops

JAGS - September 25th, 2007 at 10:11 PM

Hi, if you can get it to me in Lilydale I'll take it off your hands as I need to fill a pond. U2 me for the address if interested.
Cheers John.

amazeer - September 25th, 2007 at 10:56 PM

If you lived in Warilla I would say the best bet would be to put a sign on it. "Dont take my dirt!" no way it would be there in 24 hours.

Dont know if there's one in Melbourne but look up freecycle on google.

3toes - September 26th, 2007 at 05:04 PM

You have U2U

liam66 - September 28th, 2007 at 09:07 AM

There's a website called freecycle, full of stuff people are giving away.
