Bloody Wind!!!
kombibob - October 17th, 2007 at 04:52 PM

Ray was happily sitting under his carport today, idling away in neutral with his half assed handbrake on. While i was in the back all of a sudden he started to roll backwards, so i dove into the front seat, slammed my foot on the brake before he went in the washing line. At the same time, the wind blew open the drivers side door, busted the check strap, and did this....

very sad i feel for you

baybuscamperkid - October 17th, 2007 at 06:42 PM

that sucks. rip the inside doorpanel off asap and try to push it back out by hand, because it is so recent you may be able to get most of the dint back out, will save you alot of time later.

Oh no Bob.

It is not a pusher outer in any way I hate to say. The pics show the creases I have worked on thousands of times that cannot be pushed out.

The perfection way to repair would be.

Strip every part of hardware off the door.
Strip every part off the front panel including windscreen.
Metal finish door damage and realign hinges as required.
Paint door and front panel, blending basecoat and clearcoat whole panel with no blends in the clear.

If you can get same brand paint as restoration, then that is a better way of doing it, and if you can get original place of resto to do it, even better.

Painful part is, the job would far exceed a $400 excess to claim the job on insurance. That may be an option.

:no:DUDE ! how mamy times have I told you not to play
in the back of the kombi when the engine is running ! !

kombibob - October 17th, 2007 at 07:28 PM

Hey Peter
It's just a solid PPG paint with no clear i mixed myself. I have plenty left, plus i have a spare door i can get hold of. Front panel is actually not too bad, so i think i may just fix it myself.
Cheers
Bob

Thanks all,
Ray is all fixed. Turned out pretty good, and i'm very happy with the colour match.
Must have turned out alright, as he scored himself a trophy yesterday at the Gold Coast show.
