thought i would pick your brains on year models. Are the fresh air and heaters better in a73-75 model beetle(curved screen) than say a76. what other differences might there be? thanks.. got the money together to start looking abit more seriously. cheers tim
You are familiar with flat-screen and fround-screen beetles? 75 (round) and 76 (flat screen) both have fan-assisted demisters, an improve, ent on earlier models. The actual heaters (part of the exhaust) are the same, too
thanks maybe i shouldnt write the later models off then
these models dont have the alloy guts inside the heater boxes
If you fit early heater boxes it will enhance the output of the heater
the 76 has a extra air vent facing the driver but they can b a pain theres always the window

What do you want good heating or cooling for the passenger area ????
just wondered if the vents were better on the curved windscreen modelsfor heating and cooling . sorry to be confusing!!!!!!
IMHO...
I believe the 1976 beetle was the best...
it had the torsion bar ball joint front end and the IRS CV joint rear end...
then again there's not a lot of difference between My 1968 Auto beetle and the 76 beetle...
few extra air vents on the dash...
the 76 did have the flat padded dash...
seems to Me that the 1303S supers had more rust problems than the flat windscreen models...

Hi
I've owned both types of cars, flat screen and curved screen. Much the same heating and cooling abilities. Lee, ask VW54 about rust in 76 bugs. The
76 bugs were put together as the plant was shutting down, so some had quality issues, but good and bad examples of both models can be found.
The curved screen bugs have a larger boot and much better aerodynamics and you don't feel as claustrophobic as you would in a flat screen bug and you
wont break your finger if you point at something.
Steve
lee good looking bug especially the dash steve appreciate your wit and comments
Yes Steve,
the late late models can have a lot of rust between the guards etc...
I don't know if the bodies were still dipped in 1976.??
those flow thru ventilation vents behind the rear side windows still give lots of rust problems...
We are just lucky We don't have the major rust issues they have in other countries..
Lee
hi,
ive had a few of both the flat screeen and curved screen superbeetles and ive found the heating side of things is no different cos its the same setup
but Lbugs defroster system craps all over flat screens
they have alot larger vents that are actually aimed at the glass not away from it and theres even side outlets that defrost the door windows
also the booster fan in Lbugs is great for clearing the windscreen when its raining
like Steve said u dont feel as claustrophobic in an Lbug cos the windscreen is about 8" further forward and is 40% larger than flat screens
u dont really notice it till u got from an L to a standard

I love my Oval but my roundies SHEIT ALL OVER the earlier cars for daily usebiliity. It's like comparing an FJ Holden to a Commodore
(well, maybe not quite but I think you get the idea!)
Gees VWCool, the Volkswagen fashion police will be after you with statement like that, they may impound your Oval.
