I went last year and had a fantastic time. Watch the practice on Friday and Saturday as Sun is F'ing PACKED !!! You will need to get a seat/location early...........like 8 or 9am.

Take heaps of drinks and food as the lines are a mile long................and remember to pack the video camera !

Have a great trip ;)

I have pre booked grandstand tickets for both saturday and sunday so that Dean can have an enjoyable weekend . He is hell-bent on planes and is currently doing his pilots licence training .
At the age of 15 , I was making models cars and boats . At the age of 15 , my son is flying friggin' planes . And what is even more scary for Lisa and me is that he only has to get another 8 hours of flying in his logbook and he can fly solo at the age of 16 .... I'm starting to freak out , but have to let him do what he wants to do .

Watch out before Penguin has the RAAF recruiter around your place Wayne.

I went to see it last year. On the Sunday and it was very crowded. I'll not see it this as I have other things to do, but I recommend it as a great spectacle.

One thing that I will do next time I go will be to take food and drink in a backpack as the queues are very long and also a plastic milk crate to stand on. The crowds are about 40 people thick and a lot of the action takes place at water level, so unless you are at the front, you will miss a lot of it. To stand on a plastic milk crate at the back of the crowd will get your head above the crowd and you will see all of it. They are light to carry around all day and when you leave, leave it behind. It'll be collected.

Yes we sat on the waters edge.........with half our legs in the water. Then at about half way through the show a group of people carried chairs out into the water and blocked our view......................not for long though :grind:

Dean and I are currently in Perth at an internet cafe. Watched the qualifying today and these guys are absolutely nuts. Better than any car racing that I have ever watched. Weather is perfect, not a cloud in the sky. Looking forward to the finals tomorrow. Have got lots of pics and video. Will post some when we get back home.

skintsaint - November 4th, 2007 at 01:57 AM

Im there tomorrow for some sun and some air racing.

No doubt it will be overcrowed and pointless.

Least we will end up in a pub somewhere

Dean and I are back home from Perth . We had an awsome time over there and the weather was great all weekend .
Will be definately going again next year !!
Here are a few pics from the weekend .
For those of you who have not seen these guys live , you must !! They are just incredible .

We were sitting in the grandstand , not more than 150m from the first turning pilon . It is a real rush when the planes come straight at you through the start line at 400+ kph and then turn rapidly right in front of you .

I was sat in front of the control tower thingy, was right in front of the first part of the track where they went in and out of the 3 pillars. Awesome stuff...

next time i need stronger suncream though!

Worth seeing live

HotRodMatt - November 6th, 2007 at 09:57 AM

I can do that!

In fact that's why I stopped flying lessons. I was good in the air but all my attempts at landing looked a bit like that.
