whats the pros and cons about buying a 1995 VR6 golf whats peoples experience etc
anythings to look out for when inspecting

Hey kombi kid, I owned a vr6 for about 6 years from 30,000k's to 198,000k's, the main problem I had was common with all golfs ,dam window regulaters!A few other probs I had was with the aircon/heating had a leak inside (smells like cat piss for a minute when turned on) so check for this on inspection it apparently is common,leading to dash off job which I was quoted $1500 up.Also check roof lining as they have a tendancy to sag.

Now for the pros IT'S FRIGGIN QUICK!!!!and seeing the look on peoples faces when your golf kicks their ass off the lights.total sleepers.

P.S keep an eye out for' colour concept' vr6's only 100 in australia red,black,blue,yellow,green 20 of each.Colour coded leather interior.Mine was red(the best of the lot I think) he he he.Look for colour coded badges on back pass. doors and stamped on seats.There are some pics of mine on flat four veedub club website.

some people remove the warning globe

ok kool thanks for all your advice is there anyway to pick up the abs faults if the warning light has been removed?

Well it should come on with the ignition and go out shortly after the car has been started

If this happens then try jaming the brakes on when test driving the car stick your foot hard on the pedal it should pulsat slightly

Should have bought mine Rhys. I'd just say beware of the fact the cooling system is built poorly out of plastic and will begin to fall apart. The heater core would have caused Mr G's problem and if you're handy it's not that hard to pull the entire dash out and swap in a new core. They don't go 'that' hard compared to todays cars but when you compare them to the equivalent years commodore or falcon they're pretty good.

yer thats what i was thinkin steve ended up buying a VR6 passat up here the golf "had its problems" the passat has log booked 95000 km's and is in great condition!

I had a VR6 Passat for 9 years and was a brilliant car to drive...the manual box was a hoot.
My main issues were a fuel pump at 120,000kms ($1200) and a myriad of cooling problems, water pump and hoses.
Also, being so heavy, the Passat chewed brakes and front rotors, probably not a problem with the Golf.

The positives certainly outweighed the negatives. So long as it has a solid history, all should be good and you will have a wonderful car.

I know that my brother has seen a number of VR6 vehicles with damage to the front engine mounting point (where the engine mounts are bolted to the chassis) - usually caused by too many drag-racing style starts off the lights.

A couple of my friends own them - they all have medium to huge number of K's on the clock - and apart from the odd cooling issue (hoses and plastic connectors/header tanks, etc) they have been very reliable.

I have a 95 vr6 with 55800k's, no problems to date, awesum to drive with good fuel economy. Looking at letting her go if any one intrestead.
