What to do?? (not VW)
Spook - November 21st, 2007 at 05:54 AM

This is the house I move into next month. I've bought this one.

Place was built in '67 & this wallpaper would have went up not long afterwards.

So the question is should I strip it off, or just have a couple of cones before I walk in?

Maybe if I'm on what they were on at the time I might see it different..

(I know which way the Kombi owners will go... )

Personally I would get rid of it, if you love the wallpaper that much keep it on the walls in the toilet, that way it can induce vomitting if poisons are swallowed.

HOLY CRAP!!!

get some one else to strip it.
You will have an epileptic fit looking at that for too long!!

That rooms like a living shrine to the early 70's. Definetly need cones to live with that!! Wait a few more years and it will probably become fashonable again. Misson brown seems to be doing a comback on these lifestyle shows these days. So it all comes around again.

Thankfully(???), it's not through the entire house. It is, however, in the largest single area of the house, being the lounge, dining & stairwell. The bedrooms are a more sedate floral pattern.

But I got to tell you, it's been a long time since I've seen so much laminex furniture in one place.

think it'd be nice to leave at least one wall/section with it on - purely to keep the historic value of it. if you paint the rest white and leave one section as a feature wall... it could look kinda nice...

ouch my friggen eyeballs, who lived there disco stu?
u wouldnt wanna wake up in there hung over

last place i rented looked very similiar inside but instead oof the stylish wall paper it had those old 70s wood grain panelling and to go one better the roof was lined with those square styrofoam panels
same light fittings too
owner was an old tight arse who wouldnt spend a cent unless u twisted his arm in multiple postions

A little old lady lives in it & has had since it was built.

We get the keys on the 18th December & we should be in by the 30th. I need to move that time of year like I need a hole in my f#cken head, but that's how it's come down.

Funny bit is, the only reason we even saw this place was scanning through 'domain', I saw this wallpaper & sung out to the lady Melanie to "come & get a load of this". Strange how things turn out.

Still, it's only three blocks away, so it "SHOULDN'T" be too much of a challenge.

Oh, and the lady Melanie reckons the light fittings will be the first thing to go..

I think it need to be preserved just as it is with a heritage listing from the local council...

bugeyedbabe - November 21st, 2007 at 09:37 AM

ok...leave one wall with the paper..and the others a nice coffee color to match the color in the apper...and voila...a maccas cafe!

no seriously...check it out. they have the squares, u have the circles. but yes...this is making a comeback, but only on as feature walls

And as for the whole 'check it out" ... next time u'll keep ur mouth shut, unless its a vw of course...hehe

Fact of the matter is, I may not get much of a choice but to leave it there. Been there 40 years with no signs of lifting.

They built the top half of the folks place in '68. When they renovated the kitchen in the '90,s the wallpaper WOULDN'T come off. They got a professional in & HE couldn't move it. It's still there. They just plastered over it!

I imagine this will be the same "quality".

Maybe that paper was going cheap up Hunter way. I think my uncles place at Wangi has the exact same paper throughout and I dont imagine it will be going until after he goes.

I'd have to get rid of it. Drugs are bad mkay.

The Bigfella - November 21st, 2007 at 05:44 PM

When we bought this place it had wallpapers like that in it. 13 different varieties.

We kept 1 - which was actually a nice muted green design. Among the worst was the bedroom. It had purple peisley in it - with matching blinds. We kept a scrap of each in a photo album they were so bad.

It got better though. We hired a paper steaming machine and ripped them all off. The previous owners used to grow dope down the back, and they were obviously stoned when they put it all up. There were dirty ditties written all over the walls "Doug Anthony sucks dogs di....." you get the idea? We had the mother in law staying at the time - so I took my time cleaning the walls off. :smirk:

shit you don't need no stinking cones you have the real thing you should charge $50.00 an hour so that the poor get a hit to

LukeV85 - November 21st, 2007 at 07:29 PM

penguin - November 22nd, 2007 at 09:30 AM

You have to keep at least one of those light fittings for the toilet though :)
As for teh walls........ shotcrete? sand blasting?????

If the old man's experience is anything to go by, I can see my sanders' getting a workout.

ooh yethie indeedie, i do think keep that delightful 'retro' feel, in fact I don't know why you didn't do a deal to buy the house fully funished! How can one resist at least 5 varieties of veneer in the one living space, really works well with the vynal dining setting. I think all it needs is a couple of spare vw drivers seats for guests and you could rent it out for tupperware parties? I do agree with pengy though, you simply MUST keep one of the light fittings for the loo.. buy a lovely set of shapile pisscatching toilet rug sets and you can get that noice wee smell to permiate the mansion! Lurvlie!

pod - November 22nd, 2007 at 06:59 PM

Retro is one thing, but this. This is three shades of shit!
Had it been three shades of blue, I may consider leaving one wall.

I got to agree with you on the furniture. Looks like a bachelor flat courtesy of saint vinnies. But the laminex in the bedrooms has to be seen to be believed.

The spare VW seats I got, but I got enough lounges to seat 20, so I don't need them yet.

As for the urine smell in the touse, I got three boys with myxomatosis! I've already got that smell.
