Spring length???
Old Hutcho - February 16th, 2008 at 03:14 PM
Help guys.
I need to know what the uncompressed length of the spring in the pressure relief valve is (in a dual relief valve case, the one closest to the
flywheel) and its effect of oil pressure and engine cooling.
Mine is currently 36.5mm long and the engine tends to run hot with low oil pressure. I think the two are related.???
regards.

It WAS Sunday, and everyone probably keep their spares away from the computer.
The only one I have is actually shorter than that one you have.
It is common for old or worn,
or poorly assembled or machined engines to have low pressure,
and a "booster kit" is available with a longer stiffer spring and an adjuster in the threaded plug.
But this item, and the larger oil pumps people always fit, MAY increase your pressure,
but are only covering up for some other more alarming problem.
EG, worn case, bearing surfaces or relief piston hole and seat.
