Trying to convert my 58 beetle door windows back to vents. They are currently 1 piece. Can people please post close up photos of their vent wndow and
also of the door frame itself without the vent window or rubber in. I need to make up the bits to mount the vent window.
Im sure someone out there would have a car part way through restoration that they could take some shots for me.
I need to get these windows in within 2weeks!
Any help, cheers.
I THINK YOU WILL FIND THAT THE 1/4 WINDOW INNER SECTION HAS BEEN CUT AWAY IN ORDER TO FIT THE ONE PIECE WINDOWS IN
i THINK YOU WOULD BE BETTER OFF FINDING NEW DOORS
IT HAS A SPECIAL SECTION TO ALLOW THE 1/4 WINDOW RUBBER TO SIT IN PLACE
OPPS THE caps lock was on
how about getting a couple of doors complete and passing on the one pieces to someone who wants to destroy a factory set?
good luck with it..
yeah as dave said..
he just beat me hitting the post reply button..
haha
You sure you wouldn't be able to make something up? Is it really that difficult? It would cost me to much to get new doors re-sprayed.
I would still appreciate photos if people have them or someone who is local to hurstville so i could have a look. I assume you'd be able to make
something up to slot in.
I still have the tab with the threads for the dividing pillar bit, but nothing from there down to the front of the window. The steel in the window is
there to screw the pivet point of the vent of, or to seal and seat the whole vent window???
Has anyone converted back before?
i could make an alloy insert to slip in the exisitng frame work. Any ideas? Re-spraying doors would probably cost me at least $1500, time their
straightened, sanded, panel beating etc.
Maybe im being naive, but it shouldn't be extremely difficult
the section is bent 6 different ways Lots of luck
Go get some origional doors and start again
DEFINATELY a difficult job.
Always hated 1 pc for that reason, oh, and they work like $hit mostly.
I have a complete drivers side door if you want it to use for parts,Pick up nowra and its all yours cheers shane.
cheers for the offer Shane. Welding an original section in may be the way.

Well, vintage claim they can do it without damaging the paint. I guess time will tell. I love the snowball effect of a rebuild, but i guess thats half
the fun....just a million times the money
Sorry T54, whats ribbed?
ribbed i think he means Oval 54 doors
