To bring the dub or not.........
tecoma - March 19th, 2008 at 09:15 AM

Hi all,

I'm making the move to Oz in a few months from the uk and can't make up my mind to either sell my bug before I come over or to bring it with me.... Put a lot of hard work into it so would be nice to bring it with me...

What's the VW scene like over there.....

Thanks Jim

type3kid - March 19th, 2008 at 09:32 AM

do you really want to part with it? if not then bring it. there's a good scene over here so you won't be alone.
cheers, aaron.

Nah, save yourself the hassle and sell it before you come over - we have plenty here like that

NOT!

Wow that is nice! Yes we have a 'scene' here - but with few people and wide open spaces, it is nowhere as 'vibrant' as the UK

Thanks mate........

Sounds good to me, would be nice to go to a show without the year round rain.....

As it's a Wizard Roadster, not sure how you'll go with rego, as you'll need to comply with Australian engineering requirements. The last thing you'll want to do is start having to weld a detailed pan.

mmm, hadn't thought of that. got a point there. if you can get a good price, might be worth leaving that at home and finding something here instead. depending on the state, ragtops can be a pain to register.

Man!!!! can't believe you would even think of parting with it, also can't believe it still has drums

david777 - March 19th, 2008 at 08:47 PM

Going to be moving to Melbourne........

Thanks for pointing out about the rego thingo. The chassis has been strengthened down each side of the car. I'm gonna have to find out about that one....

Thanks Jim

I think you may find they'll ask you to install some sort of roll bar. not difficult, but it may ruin the lines of the car.

I give up - where is the carb??

matberry - March 20th, 2008 at 12:37 PM

Normally on the other side of the fan housing, flip the manifold around. Probably access from behind the back seat.
Well thats my guess.

3toes - March 20th, 2008 at 03:48 PM

I remember drooling over that car at VW Northwest in the early 90's. I thought that was long dead by now. Good choice in coming to Melbourne. I don't think you will have too much trouble registering in Vic but you would probably need a roll bar as somebody else mentioned. There are 1 or 2 wizards over here so they can be registered.

tecoma - March 28th, 2008 at 06:39 PM

Thanks for the advice guys....... Your right about the roll bar not going with the car. My mates dad builds hot rods (Ace of Spades) in mel so he might be able to knock something up for me that looks ok.
Well I'm off today to the Volksworld show (in the bloody rain...... haha) to show it and try and sell it. I think a fresh start's called for, want to build something defferent when I come over. Gonna be looking for an old 50's bug or a split.

OZ Towdster - March 28th, 2008 at 07:36 PM

Good luck finding either in Oz as they are going the other way to you quite regularly

matara - March 28th, 2008 at 07:39 PM

I remember seeing that at VW Northwest in Tatton Park when I used to live in Stockport. I think I might even have some photos of it somewhere!

Bring it over I say

Cheers

Steve

Ragerty - March 28th, 2008 at 09:14 PM

Hi chap,

just made the move myself and the Samba is on the boat as we speak, Couldn't part with her after all the work I have done on her. I'm in Vic too.

Have you had approval for the car to be accepted yet? Send us a PM with the stage you are at and i'l help as much as I can.

All the best
