Flipped torsion bars, rachet springs, no hood area under the boonet, so don't how it would go with rego. Nice diamond weave interior and sweet paint.

I'll save my show comments for another post, so not to detract from this ride.

it was a good day plenty of new vw's to look at and the weather fined up around 10

the 'ratchet springs' are actually friction style shock adsorbers.

the leading arm setup is the really scary bit. the trailing arms (and the steering arm on the spindle) are curved to be used trailing and even then they flex under load. using them in a leading arrangement would cause them to flex even more easily. :(

anyway, not my car I guess. he'll have to figure it out.

I'd be more worried about some of the Rats that you are sharing the road with, not a beautifully-crafted show car like that

I love it - I drooled over it at Summernats

Hi

I doubt if it ever be allowed to be registered or if the owner even built it with the intention of registering it and driving on the road. Its a lovely piece of work so the effectiveness of the front suspension is only academic as it will only ever be driven around car parks etc.

Steve

Many Rat look beetles are just that...

they look like a ratty car

but underneath they are like new....

the black paint on that rod was excellent....

it was in excellent condition all over...

it was in the show
I believe the weather did put many people off...
many people were Not locals.. Victoria and distant NSW

the swapmeet was under cover..
wasn't a lot there
Wolfsburg Automotive and Volkscare were there from Victoria...

We arrived after 10am so didn't see any of the rain there

it did however rain all the way there and return...
all 622 kms ...

As it was my first BugIn event I cant compare numbers with previous events. We drove up from Canberra to chat with Richard from VForce and tried to move a few bits and pieces from the 1303S (L Bug) currently with VForce ( See Bugluv's post re Basil!);)

We arrived I guess at about 10 or 1030 ish - not too many people there but the weather had been less than kind, The car show and shine was very interesting. Nobody seemed interested in the gear I had to swap/sell, so it is now on Ebay ( again see Sarahs/Bugluv's post) with the link to my Ebay auction. I hope someone will find a use for it.

All in all a great day and I got to meet Steve Carter and look at his L Bug and compare notes. - Yes it was I who bought the other Porsche space-saver wheel ! But the guy selling them said he had a few more at home. Getting back on topic - I thought that this 'rod' was my fav on display.

My name is Matt Strong i am the owner of the black volksrod like Adam Debiasi above has already said, I spoke to an engineer before building the car and he was fine with me having a leading arm front end as long as it was all factory componets that i was using to do the job. i hope to have it on the road in the near future.
As far as the build of the car goes i built the car myself, i did all the cutting, welding, body work and paint, i sorted out the front end, bigger wilwood master cylinder and fitted disk brakes to the front that i had to make custom fit the car. I had some out side help from friends and family, i had the trim done by Rod Penrose, the motor is a 2376cc with comp eliminator heads and 48 webers that was built by shimo. The motor parts and the bling was also from Rod Penrose.( I would have done the trim if I could sew and I would have built the motor only I have not built big motors like this before, and it was a lot money to stuff up.)

Hi Matt, still not sure about the leading arm thingo (just my opinion, happy to be proved wrong) but good on you for getting it approved properly. The car is a credit to you. I expect the front will go alittle lower sometime in the future. ;)
