Just rotten bad luck ........
mscabrio - March 25th, 2008 at 07:18 PM

On the weekend our friend needed emergency surgery, so I picked her up on Sunday and took her to our place so that she would not be alone while she recovered. This morning I took her home and she was rather shocked to see her beetle parked on the footpath, when she clearly remembered parking it on the road (she lives in the inner suburbs with no off street parking). It seems that some mongrel in the middle of the night has slammed straight into her car, hitting it so hard that it pushed it up onto the footpath and snapped the back wheel off. A neighbour heard the bang an went out to investigate to find a white car speeding off very quickly, unfortunatly too quickly for the neighbour to see a rego.

She has only had this car for a few months, her former car also a beetle was written off in accident last Novemember

Talk about bad luck.

And really poor form by the other driver.

report it to police. leaving the scene of a accident is an offence. collect the paint chips for possible match ups if the culpirit is caught. Then you can charge him and collect damages through the courts. if nothing is reported nothing can be done. hope it works out for her.

cops were called on sat night when the neighbors went out to investigate. part of the car was left behind at the scene so they know the make model and color of the car.

Spook - March 26th, 2008 at 08:26 AM

If you don't mind me saying, I think that's well outside the parameters of bad luck.

Was it insured??

type3kid - March 26th, 2008 at 10:43 AM

Jeez, that's terrible news. I hope your friend is on her way to recovering quickly, and that her car will be as good as new. Let's hope the cops find the little so and so who did it too.

mscabrio - March 31st, 2008 at 07:51 PM

They didn't find out who it was, but the main thing was that noone was hurt. The insurance company has taken care of it and it is being fixed and should be ready within a couple of weeks. Big problem is that now my friend has had technically 2 at fault claims in 12 months so her insurance company isn't too happy!!!! She is also driving around in a hire car - Hyundai Accent - so she isn't too happy either!!!!

Ampdub - April 1st, 2008 at 08:38 AM

If she was not in charge of the car at hte time the insurance company should not consider that an at fault claim. What, do they expect that we have to anticipate everything that could happen to our cars even when parked correctly outside our homes, i thought that was what insurance was for.

she should not incur an at fault rating for that

blutopless2 - April 1st, 2008 at 10:51 AM

problem is that they have noone to put the blame on and the costs... so the person who insures the car then has to pay for it.. so by using her own insurance to fix the car she loses a claim.

Some people suck, A few months ago my brother had a MK1 Escort all done up mags, injected 2.2, a really nice guy and had it parked outside his friends house while there band was rehearsing when a neighbour knocked on the door and asked if anyone owned a escort. Someone had thought it would be fun t ram a few cars in the street incl. Adrians. It was a right off and was so pushed in on the back you couldn't open the doors. Another 3 cars and a trailer were also smashed. Thoughtless D--kheads. Hope you friends luck comes good soon. T54

mscabrio - April 4th, 2008 at 07:57 PM

The cops didn't find out how who did this and today they told my friend that finding out is not a priority and that she shouldn't keep asking them if they have found out anything.
