Bizarre - May 27th, 2003 at 10:17 AM

replaceable cam gear?

Andy - May 27th, 2003 at 10:39 AM

It's definitely "past it's used by date" :D
Sorry, no idea. Out of a water pumper maybe?

sikdub - May 27th, 2003 at 10:50 AM

i would have said a cam gear with a bit of nasty work on the teeth. Dunno what from though i do see the vw logo...

Steven

vw54 - May 27th, 2003 at 10:58 AM

Well yar wll getting close and part right, but from what year model.

BEER coaster well that a new idea.

Andy - May 27th, 2003 at 11:18 AM

Well if it's a guessing game, (never played with anything but beetles & Kombi's) must be reasonably old to get that rust, and out of an aussie model. Passat/Fox? so early '80's?
Getting warmer?

vw54 - May 27th, 2003 at 11:48 AM

No its not rust, its made from Fibre, and its from a Beetle and or Kombi, as there the only VW models they made at the time.

whatnow - May 27th, 2003 at 12:47 PM

it is a cam gear out of a early (54 down?) 36 or 25 hp motor... as said above, past it's used by date.

so what is the prize for the persom who gets the Q right? ;)

vw54 - May 27th, 2003 at 01:15 PM

Yep that right true and correct as well

Well as for the prize.... will have to find

Baja Wes - May 27th, 2003 at 01:17 PM

does the words say "ferrozell" which is german for ferrous cell, which somehow is telling us it has iron in it?

looks like a cam gear....

vw54 - May 27th, 2003 at 01:42 PM

Wes

Yes it does say that your right, but as you say, theres no bloody Iron in it thats for sure.

the hub is Alloy and the out gear is Fibre

Yes its a early cam gear.

baybuscamperkid - May 27th, 2003 at 04:50 PM

still, id like to second the beer coaster idea.

vw54 - May 27th, 2003 at 05:33 PM

Dont worry its being used in that situation right now.

vw54 - May 28th, 2003 at 07:58 PM

If anyone wants to buy a new one

http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=418&item=21768...

I dont thats for sure

Tazz - May 28th, 2003 at 08:37 PM

Almost the same as a falcon V8.
Nylon outer on the cam sproket.

Menangler - May 28th, 2003 at 09:59 PM

Dave,
My Dad bought a new beetle in 1956, it went back to the dealer under waranty to have the fibre gear replaced by an alloy one. It was a very common problem.

vw54 - May 29th, 2003 at 08:04 AM

Yeah i know WHAT must have VW been thinking at that time.

Ive seen them on Old Fords from pre 30s or so, but you ask for a new gear and you get an alloy one, or at least i did for my 28 A Model.
