Heres some old pics i found today while lookin through the box at my mums house.

There is also a video that my grandmother has, and will put it on pc one day when i convert it from VHS.

My great uncle and mum. Early kombi ute, late model with big eye blinkers and massive roof rack that he most likely made.

i think nearly everyones family had vws in them in the past
my great aunt had a 61 KG she bougt new and drove it till she gave up driving in early 90s and got rid of it just as i was getting into VWs
and mum and dad had a lowlight poptop when it was only a few years old in europe and also a manx in the 70s
the pics of them are all on slides tho

but they do have some pics from surfers paradice in 74 and along the esplinard every 2nd car is either a beetle or a kombi
ill dig them out and fire up the scanner later

I've just discovered my sister has all our old photos and there should be some from when my dad was in Germany after the war with the British Control Commission when only the Brits were allowed to use VWs. Hopefully one that I remember where he had his own driver, a german guy that even wore lederhosen (if that's how you spell it?). Also shots of him with a VW outside of Goerings HQ in Belgium. As soon as I can get my hands on these I'll definitely post them as they are pretty impressive, plus my dad still has his marbles and can give me all the details. Yep VWs are in the blood and at the mo I'm doing one up for my son:)

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - April 6th, 2008 at 03:24 PM

Vw's started in my family with my Dad's uncle putting a 1952/3 split bus on the beach doing trips taking people to Double Island point(Car was about 3 years old). He made a dual wheel setup for the rear as there where no such thing as wide tyres, cut the sides out of it and it had bunting along the gutters on the roof on both sides. The lil 1100 got a fair work out and he tells me that when he used to climb hills and it would run out of power he would get everyone to start jumping up and down. That would unload the tyres and she'd spin a bit and get the revs up and climb a bit further. He climb a dune with 14 people on board that a Willies Jeep club of the day could only get 2 cars up with a big run up. He parked at the bottom and drove up it doing the ol' "everybody start jumping" manouvere!!

As he was telling me all I could think of was poor old tranny!! I will have to get some pics and post em up!!
