Just want to buy a new alternator for my beetle and i was wondering who has used the replacement ones made in china ?
I was looking at buying a Bosch one but the 'no name' ones are a lot cheaper.
Anyone had any probs with them ?
cheers
Craig t
I looked for a bosch unit a while back as well but could only come up with the no-names. I haven't had any trouble with mine so far
cheers Al.............I noticed the one in the rag is bosch !
But where are the Bosch ones made??
Most Bosch stuff is made in the Far East these days anyway
Would find hard to believe they were made in the Fatherland
Not worried about the country of manufacture.............just the quality control !
ask DubbinDan about the china ones... left him and his family in his bus, in the dark, on a highway one night... not a good outcome..
oh..................what was the problem ?
Does anyone have any leads on where to purchase a bosch one whilst we are on the subject?
Craig, that was the last bosch one I have owned (in the rag)....hopefully will find some more some day.
I tried Tooley imports today but they only had Chinese ones for $240...............apparently the bosch ones are around $390.
Is it not cheaper to have an auto electrician re-build these units? And if it`s a diode problem within the unit check the value reading of diode (by meter) and replace from electrical shop at Ashfield. I think their name is Warners. Next door to Blockbusters,Liverpool Rd. I had a similar prob with old Hunter years ago.Diodes were shot. Ran meter across to ascertain value and bought two over the counter from them. It was around `70 and they cost me $5 each (back then). Just a matter of unsoldering old ones and inserting new ones. Mind you. your problem that you are experiencing could be totally different to mine, but just a thought for you to try out. Hope all works out for you. cheers
Correction : Wagners is the shop at Ashfield. It is a radio/tv/electrical shop. And yes, if the diodes are faulty you can replace them with ones that are used in valve radios/amps as long as the (electrical) value is the same.
Hi
I used a 75 amp one for about 6 months and had no issues. What I did notice that when it was charging it had a distinctive hum, the hum was not
unpleasant and when charging it also dropped the revs slightly.
