OK guys / girls, what type of mags/tyres sizes do you recommend to suit the thug without going overboard. And does it neccessitate any changes to the struts? Been told i can`t do 14 x 6 Fords ( i had on my 1st beetle years ago) as it will cause motor probs. Thanks

take a measure ment from the back of the wheel to the bolt plate and trhats about all you can use some hotwires fit but i dont like them
struts really limit your offerings my rod has special made rims

Was down at Vintage other day and saw a nice set of chromies they do. There was a white beetle sporting same up on hoist there and it seemed to suit it. So probably end up doing same. Thanks

Thanks. They had a set of modified porsche struts, fittings etc (w/o tyres/rims) but too much money to spend at the moment.

Think carefully before you spend.
Work out what wheels you want and build around that,
Supers do have limitations for wheels
Dont buy cheap wheels and then be caught with having to go wide guards or nor being able to lower.

You are better off spending your $$$ on struts first as this will allow better wheel fitment.
If you want to go wider than 4 1/2" you will need narrowed springs.
hour glass springs are a waste of money.
Once you have put these in and lowered the standard cup and put new shorter inserts in you may as well have put propper adjustable struts in.

I am running 16" x 6" 50ET 205 50 series under stock guard with room to spare

Have a good look at the chromies/Empi 8 spoke etc and you will see they sit proud and you wont be able to lower porperly

Stock is 4 1/2" with 41ET (offset)
Sports option was 51/2" with 26ET

Use sports as your outer limit but with thinner springs you can go further in than stock

Have a play here

Stock wheels on a nicely lowered super looks HEAP better than mags with a 4" gap under the front wheels

second that about the empi 8s ive got a set at the moment and with stock guards they sit out by about an inch and a half. the other set to look at is the vforce spiders as they come in the right offset for the supers

Hi

I agree with Bizzare, go for the struts 1st and then your choice of wheel is much wider.

In my daily driver 1974 1303 I'm running Subaru BBS wheels, 5x100 pattern, 17x7 with a 55 ET on the front, these wheels fit great but I had to wind my lock stops in a touch.

On the rear these same wheels sit in too far, so rather than run illegal spacers I fitted early 944 rear suspension which widened the rearend enough to fit them.

Thanks Bizarre and Barls. Car is currently running Kumho 165/80R15 Power Star 758 up front and Yokohama 175/80R15 Super Digger 875 rear. I`ll check out the cars at the show on the weekend as that`ll give me a much clearer indication of what works/looks good. Thanks guys

Cripes Steve. Your pic hit the same time as i posted reply to Barls and Bizarre. Nice looking ride. Actually like those wheels of yours. Bugger, your ride has pop out windows too.

Hi

The car looks 100% better in the photo, I will be there on the weekend with the car and I would be happy to answer any questions.

The way I went about it was not the cheapest solution, but the results are very effective.

Pop outs, gotta love eBay.

Thanks H. Yeh,i`m really ticked off i don`t have pop outs Steve. Means my 30kg pooch sits up front. Better get her a hat and shades ! And Windex too. Used to sling her in the back of the 4 x 4. Now the twice i`ve had her up front she`s all over the place. Nothing worse than a NUDGE as i go into a corner.ha
