thugbug (`74 L) needs one but best i do both the same. Any recommendations on brand? Not after top of range, just good all rounders. Was quoted $430 incl wheel align but i reckon can do better. cheers
can get struts for twice that
Personally i would "whack" some 2nd hand ones in for $50 or go all out

Do u want to lower it while yr there or just do a STOCK replacement
Thanks Bizarre. Will check on a couple of other options tomorrow. Don`t mind paying for things to be done on my car, just thought the price a bit steep. Still a learning curve on what item/s cost what on these bugs.
Hi VW54. At the moment just replacement of shocks. I`ll worry about lowering later as i`ve got a set of nice beemer mags/adapters coming my way.
well its a good idea to do both at once saves a lot of headaches and double work.... especially if u get someone who knows WHAT will work with what instead of buying stuff someone has recomended and not tried particullary when buying mags and tyres and lowering its takes lots of VW experience to know what will work
How true that is, as i`m finding out all these quirky and not so quirky attributes these bugs have.
call some dealers vw dealers that is like classic (george) or vintage (boris) mick motors
these dealers are supporters and sponsors so give one a call that way you get the right info from people that served our hoby for years
George and Boris were the other options as you mentioned. Another is from where the car was originally bought/serviced from. The price quoted to me today was from a 'local' outlet. Away from the price, i was interested in what members here used/ found to be the ones they found did a good job. Thanks Greedy53.
i got boge in my bug
And i`ve got Boags in my mug.
Yes,
BOGE were original equipment suppliers...
Best to try at VW SHOPS like George - Mick - Boris etc
VW Parts are usually always MORE expensive at a "normal"
parts shop...
Best to buy from a VW shop who sells heaps of the parts..
LEE
Absolutely. I`ll be seeing Boris tomorrow. Thanks Lee. Gordon
So weighed up all the pros and cons and decided to get a pair of Sachs. These were not the brand, priced in original $433 quote using el cheapo after markets. So the deals done and dusted. Bought the Sachs over the counter, got them fitted elsewhere, wheel aligned, and including a key lock catch for the motor lid ended up paying $432 !
