Kombi accident man loses leg...fund started
ByronBug - May 29th, 2008 at 05:32 PM

All this thread was posted on the kombi Club...
I was hoping some of us here on AVD could also donate & show their support to a fellow VW owner....

Sunshine Coast man was in danger of losing one of his legs last night after a shocking head-on crash on the David Low Way late yesterday afternoon.

A Royal Brisbane Hospital spokesperson told thedaily.com.au this morning that the 33-year-old Coolum man was expected to be in theatre for much of the day and that, contrary to some media reports, his leg had not been amputated.

An update on his condition was expected later today.

The man was driving home in his Volkswagen Kombi when a Ford sedan carrying five people apparently crossed on to the wrong side of the road near the Town of Seaside roundabout.

The Kombi’s driver side took the brunt of the impact.

An horrific scene greeted emergency service workers.

The 73-year-old Ford driver, from Mudgee in New South Wales, was quickly freed by fire fighters, but the Coolum man remained trapped by his legs for almost an hour.

The driver’s side front end of the Kombi had crumpled around the man’s lower body in a mess of metal.

The Sunshine Coast Daily today reports that the 33 yo kombi driver did indeed have a leg amputated. I was hoping for better news about his leg.

A tragedy for this young guy and his family ..... but it could have been a lot worse especially when you look at the impact.

This has just knocked me for six it is my yoga teacher, I'm just spinning out it is so wrong such a wonderful guy it will be very hard I imagine as he is an active guy surfing teaching yoga.

They are hanging pretty tight right now as you can imagine but I have a link if we want to do something.

Was posted on Kombi Club...

"Hi I am the Kombi Drivers Sister - i just got on the internet and googled about the accident and this came up as well.. Very very nice to see all your kind wishes - for poeple that do not even know him you are very kind. He did lose his right leg just below the knee!!! all his upper body, spine and internal is perfectly fine - (i think cause the kombi sits higher) About the kombi - well he has had that kombi for god um 15 years or so - he is a mechanic and he kept it immaculate - very sad day for the kombi it was a very loved car in the family - he is out of intensive care and in a ward - doing ok - if i can help out let me know.."

Hey KAte here again

His name is Tony Enchelmaier... We are all still very shocked but are just all supporting him and being there for him. he has a wife and 2 little girls and as i said we are all just comfortiing him and them and helping them out any way we can.. As a yoga instructor and keen surfer its definaltey a blow but he will be able to get a leg put on and im sure nothing will stop him then.. he is connected with the spirtual world re with Yoga etc and im sure this will help him through this tough time..

still just so unfair when it happens to your brother etc.

Hi to all of you guys out there

Firstly a Thankyou to you guys for all your caring support for tony and his family after such a drastic few days. I went and visited tony in hospital yesterday he is in a ward and in his own room - orthapedic ward but there are still lots of problems arising - re: top of right leg he had to have major surgery - broken left foot and broken left thumb and stitches in chin and a broken sternum plus he is having major pain issues but he is in the best place to cope.. there is not much anyone else can do yet.. and still no visitors yet just the immediate family etc... Getting so many good vibes from people like you !! im sure in the future there will be areas of help needed.. Tonys Dad says we will have alot of things to sort out re: what to do with the Tonys kombi etc?

It will be a very long road ahead for tony re walking surfing and yoga but it may become easier with the support from friends like you of the kombi club so thanks again for your thoughts

Kate

P.S I will try and update as much as i can

ByronBug - May 29th, 2008 at 05:39 PM

Here is an update on Tony's condition from Kate..... sent after 3.00pm .......

Tony was going into surgery to have his left foot operated on, so they can plaster it as it is broken pretty bad.

This means he will be in a wheel chair for 6 weeks so instead of getting transferred to Nambour Hospital he would be able to go home until the foot heals and he can start rehabilitation ....... but all this is depending on how well other leg heals etc .......

He will be in hospital for a bit still as he is in a lot of pain at the moment .... which is the biggest thing ......

A special mention from Kate is that Tony has been told about all the support from the KC ..... and is humble, but appreciative of all your thoughts.

Brett

Progress Report

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I have just been talking with Tony's brother Jeff.

Tony has more energy during the day and is doing OK but is obviously still uncomfortable. He is due for another round of surgery on Saturday and the doctors will be looking at both his left foot and his right leg.

He looked at the photo's of the accident today for the first time and even managed a joke about the snap on seat cover on the drivers seat both Tony and Stacey have read through the thread and are touched by the good vibes coming from it.

The is still no indication of when Tony will be strong enough for visitors or when he can think about going home.

As far as the collection goes hang in there as we are trying to set it up in a very transperant fashion, with the money going directly to Tony through a paypal set up, whether that will appear on this site will be up to the mods. ( I will be talking to Roy again tomorrow)

Those who are interested in helping I hope this process will be rapped up very soon.

I hope to do some sort of thing for klubfest maybe a coin toss/ basic yoga classes. If anyone wants to see me do a particular thing let me know.

For Tony this journey is just begining and our support already has been so positive for both him and the family.

Cheers Alex

Okay folks, here we go! Get your hammers and piggybanks ready.

http://tonyskcfund.googlepages.com/home

This link takes you to an offsite page... Once you're on that page, click the logo and go to PayPal and donate, if you are able. Otherwise, distribute your love as before. There is no button for that.

Notes (the transparency fine print):

- No account is currently linked to the site. Tony's brother Jeff will create one. In the meantime, donations are held at PayPal, and your money is safe.
- Jeff has suggested they will reconvene in about a month to report on the funds (but he'll probably give interim reports in the meantime)
- Jeff has changed the password, so I no longer have any access to the email account or the paypal account!
- jeff will confirm this stuff in a subsequent posting
- if mods wish to somehow draw their attention to this posting, they are very welcome to do so!

Tonys Sister

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hi to everyone again It is Kate here TOnys Sister

Sorry for my absence from updates lately, i have had to go back to work and have been very busy. As you can probably see i have handed things over to my brother Jeff - re: fundraising etc. Jeff rang Alex and spoke to him. I hope this is ok.

As for some of your concerns with this being ligitimite although i have not thought of a way that i can prove this i can assure you that this is.

Thanks to Alex for being in contact with us and giving his support to tony, I am sure the Yoga will be up and running again in the future, i only wish i could have taken over so the money would still be flowing.

For everyone I am going to visit tony tomorrow and will soend most of tomorrow with him, i will give him all your kind wishes and support

Thankyou again

Kate

Get Well Card

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I think the time is right to start getting a card together, If there is anyone who is arty and would like to make one that would be great (send me a PM) otherwise I will get one ready for Klubfest.

If people want to add a message and a pic of their kombi at Klubfest that would be great and if you cannot make it and want to be part of it, you can send me your wishes and a pic I will print it out and add it to the card over the Klubfest weekend.
