THIS IS ONLY FOR PEOPLE WHO KNOW ABOUT COCKATIELS!

Just needed to know about if there is anything wrong with my pet cockatiel. His name is jake and my brother has said that his beak is going all flaky. Does this mean he is sick or he is lacking any vitamins or minerals? Please help me becuase i dont want jake to die . Please help!

A piccie would help and maybe his age, has he got some wood to chew on? Post some close up's of his head and we might see what's up.

yea he has wood in his cage and he chews on his wooden pirch. You know becuase you can see chunks out of the wood. Here is the pic:

It might be a calcium deficiency. Get some cuttle fish bone for it to snack on and a good mix of a good food.

But do u think my cockatiel is in good condition? With its eyes and crown and all? Any other problems you've seen in this picture?

Its looks fine to me but Im no expert. A happy bird is a healthy bird so provided it has a nice big cage to fly and stretch his wings, clean water and a good diet and entertainment all is good.
Most fauna change behavior when sick so unless his behavior has taken a dive I wouldnt worry.
I used to have birds many moons ago but came to realise that they belonged in the sky and be free......

sweet. But yea my bird is ok and has excellent behaviour becuase i can hand feed him lettuce and he will eat it out of my hand and not take any worries. So i guess he is in good shape then. If i need any more help about cockatiels ill post up something and hopefully you will lead me on the right track to a good and healthy cockatiel. Thanks for all the info man!

I seem to recall painting a beak or two with a cotton bud dipped in paraffin - once or twice a week for 4 weeks - to treat scaly mite. Doesn't seem bad enough to be that though.

Suggest you get a copy of "Everybird" by Pat Macwhirter. Your local library would probably have it.

Not a good idea feeding him lettuce. Try silver beat, grass seed heads, milk thistle. Beak looks OK, give him a good variety and mix of food. keep his cage clean with lots of stuff for him to play with and he'll be right.

Scaly beaks can be caused by mites so you might want to get him checked up by a vet
