I saw this on samba
I have often thought these would be cool on a beetle. I have them on my splitty and would love a bug set.
Are these real, or rather, an original accessory

yes they are real, have seen them on photos of bugs in the states/UK .. they don't seem to opren really far though

I don't believe they were ever made by Volkswagen
for beetles..

but I have seen pics of rear window pop outs in the uSA back in the 60s with surf boards hanging out the back...

but all non genuine..

I like watching TV shows like Foyle's war [UK show]
where most cars have front pop outs [safaris]
and 4 suicide doors...
although You never see any front windscreens open..??

funny they were standard on many UK cars along with sunroofs
and We should have had both here in Australia...

at least we would use them...
