and I'm posting here as I didn't get much response - the response I got was useful, just not a lot. Can anyone shed some light on the early king-pin / late king-pin issue? Has anyone ever run into this problem with their own bus?

I do not know who Rob King is. Does he have an email address?

Sorry for posting in what is probably the wrong section but I figured my post may have been limited to just a couple of views from tech heads rather than people who may not be but have run into this problem.
