Overseas Bug 1st Registration
UberMod - July 11th, 2008 at 02:28 PM

Hi all,

I've been told that my '62 beetle will be ready to be picked up from the shipping company at the end of next week. My question is, are there any VW friendly inspection places that I can take her to located close to Villawood. The RTA said its okay for me to drive her there for a blue slip inspection. I have already got comp. insurance and the green slip.
I'm getting a bit nervous about the whole thing, its not exactly standard its a resto cal. Adjustable front beam etc. not lowered very much though. It doesn't have reversing lights and I've noticed a few older bugs with aftermarket lights fitted, are these mandatory??
:fakesniff:
thanks

Hi

Try Klaack motors at Fairfield, I'm not if he does blue slips but he may tell who can.

You didn't need reversing lights until 1972.

Possibly you won't need one, but be prepared for what us Aussies call an Engineers Report, if the vehicle is modified AT ALL (seats, suspension, wheels, tyres, carbies etc). This is proof to the government that the modifications allow the car to continue to meet all safety and roadworthy rules..

Before that, make sure there is NO RUST, you have brake lines in good condition, NO OIL LEAKS, NO OIL LEAKS, NO OIL LEAKS, tyres have good tread depth, no exhaust leaks, no movement in tie rods or king pins etc: ie the car should be showroom

So,

this morning I turned up at the RTA with all my paperwork and a little over 15 mintues later I had my bug registered and was holding a set of NSW registration plates. It was a fantastic feeling I can tell you after 9 months of worrying about everything. (Obtaining permission to import took a loooong time).

My heartfelt thanks to the guys who profferred their advice.

1303Steve, thanks for the contact details for Klaack Motors. Hans is a good bloke and I'll certainly be using his services again, I highly recommend him to other dubbers if you're in the area.

I can't wait to go for a drive this weekend, look out Sydneysiders for an Apple Green and White beetle!

cheers,

Eug.
