** '68 Beetle Stolen - Nth Beaches ** DESTROYED!!!
hoodride - July 14th, 2008 at 06:58 PM

My sister's 1968 VW Beetle was stolen from out the front of our house between 10pm and 8am on the 14th. :(

It was blue and had black on yellow plates - AD-97-KD.

It was taken from Mona Vale.

Spent all day driving around looking for it.

There have been other reports of theft in the area, so be warned.

This is what the car looked like...

It was found early this morning upside down on West Head Rd.

It had been rammed through a steel boom gate.

All the glass had been smashed.

All the panels kicked in.

Some of the seats were missing.

They even took the battery.

This is the aftermath...

Thanks alot to whoever did this.

It was my sister's first car, she was only 18, she'd saved for ages, finally found 'the one', only to have this happen.

I hope you had a great time doing this.

The car is being fingerprinted etc, these people can't be that smart if they tag the car after they steal it.

Hopefully who ever is responsible will be appropriately dealt with.

Thanks again everyone for all your help and support.

Be careful guys, I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else.

I's a horrible horrible feeling.

Peace.

Um I certainly did when my Commy was vandalised behind a pub, then stolen six months later

68AutoBug - July 15th, 2008 at 05:22 PM

its about time we had a "Grand theft Auto" Law for car thieves...
and a another for classis cars... [cut hand off]

Did it have an alarm?? fuel cutoff??

the car is pretty individual , probably none like it..

68 with early front guards and bumpers..

I hope they are caught..

I hope you find it OK. I heard your plug on Ray Hadley today.

Steve

vwsteve - July 16th, 2008 at 01:25 PM

make sure the cops print it before people touch it!

baybuscamperkid - July 16th, 2008 at 01:36 PM

shit that sucks. hope it was insured. time to find a good donor shell and transfer all the good mech and interior bits. how long had she had it?

vwsteve - July 16th, 2008 at 01:41 PM

if its insured for market value, make sure you research and supply documentation of similar cars for sale for good prices when you take it to them, most of them down there have agreed value but i think?

type3kid - July 16th, 2008 at 04:15 PM

damn man sorry to hear.

hope they catch the F**kers!!

THOSE PRICKS !!!:grind:

68AutoBug - July 16th, 2008 at 08:02 PM

I really doubt that whoever did this would be on this website....

I couldn't even smash a window in any car...
[its just a spare window glass for some one]

I hope You can salvage something from it...
maybe the chassis and running gear...
but it will cost a lot of money to make it like it was...
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Insurance wise...
its very difficult for a young person to get car insurance
at a reasonable cost...
as they have no driving history..

I'm not even sure whether Shannons will insure classic cars owned by young people..

You can always do a Mr Bean..
take the steering wheel with you..
that stilll doesn't stop any damage..
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Best wishes to Your sister
I hope this never happens again

Id follow up on the tag, if thats what it is, can you get a close up, i know some people that can chase it up... any other tags or stuff left behind...

hewey - July 16th, 2008 at 09:33 PM

F***ers :grind: :grind: :grind:

I know what it's like, my bug got trashed on the street one night - $3500 worth of damage. Luckily insurance covered it at the time, but I was out of pocket $400 for the excess. It's a horrible feeling finding your car like that!

Hopefully she gets a decent insurance payout, and can find another bug that makes her as happy as this one did. :tu:

At least some of the parts look salvageable, it could always be worse:

was reading about^^^^^ that one on the ford forums , but car theft is treated to lightly these days, a slap on the wrist is all they get :grind:

I really feel for ur sister i know i''d be gutted if the same thing happend to me

i know this wont make her feel any better but might save others vws ending the same fate but there really is something to be said for immobilliors and kill switches
specially as it was obviously dead shit kids with nothing better to do that wouldnt have a clue how to bypass decent immobilisers

i know with how well my bugs rigged up noone will ever pinch it, well under its own steam anyway

i tested it out with one of my exs dodgy mates who now has 5 car thefts on his record
he had the shits big time cos he really couldnt work out what little hidden trick id done

stupid old vw... cranks but wont start and nothings unplugged or removed

Im thinking the same. if their game enough to steal a car n tag it their probably regular joy-riders and hopefully have some sort of record.

bugluv - July 16th, 2008 at 10:14 PM

Thats absolutely disgusting :grind::grind::grind::grind: What complete f**kers. I cannot believe someone could do that to another persons pride and joy :( Really feeling for your sister at the moment, she is the same age as me and I can imagine how I would feel if it happened to me.

Notch Nut - July 16th, 2008 at 11:16 PM

If you ever catch the *&^%$#%&* a.holes that did this, send me their remains thru the post and I'll deal with the rest.

Jay_1965vw - July 17th, 2008 at 07:31 AM

1303Steve - July 17th, 2008 at 08:44 AM

Hi

Im digusted with whats happended to this car, you have to ask why, poor potty traning etc or never being told NO.

I hope that your sister can get it back together after this and get another bug.

The final outcome beside the young ladies loss of her prized car is its another bug off the road, they are getting scarce now, how often do you see a bug on the road during your travels, not often.

If its insured maybe someone on the forum can help out with a body shell etc

Steve

BillK - July 17th, 2008 at 08:56 AM

Yes is absolutely disgusting..Even if caught I doubt the magistrates would do much more than slap these bastards on the wrist..

Good luck - as Steve says -I hope it can be brought back to life..but I dont share similar thoughts for the scum that did this..

I'm currently scanning everywhere I can, trying to find a good shell etc.

If anyone may be able to help us with that, that'd be fantastic.

Cheers

yes there is 'legal' justice and 'street' justice ;)

Good luck in your search for the culprits... I don't think it will be long before someone talks/brags about doing this and gets taken on a little trip back out to West Head... Or something...
