TheMiniMan - August 4th, 2008 at 03:21 PM

Bugly-Bradly was the closest,

I weighed it on 2 different scales today, one was at the dump dropping some rubish off & the other was at the metal recyclers dropping off some scrap metal, both of them said 1760kgs

How the fark is that????

What a tank!!!!!!!!!

No wonder i`m spitting boxes every month,,, i was getting heaps of gearbox life from my old single cab splitty ute, it was only 1250kgs,,, this thing must be full of lead

I`m definately going to have to put her on a sooper dooper strict diet now :-)

I actually thought i`d be close to the weight of a commodore , 1300kgs or something like that because i can beat most commodores in a drag race,,,& top end as well,,, but crickey!!!!............ 1760 is just way tooo dam Fat !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

can someone weigh a std duely for me one day soon??????????????? I`d be really interested to know just how much extra Fat this thing is carrying than stock
cheers

Fat Matt & his Pie eating Kombi :-)

modulus - August 4th, 2008 at 03:31 PM

According to my Haynes manual, a Double Cab without cover but with driver should be 1350 kg. The cover is worth another 25 kg. I don't know where you got the extra 400 kg.

hth, bdi

TheMiniMan - August 4th, 2008 at 03:34 PM

Oh this is without me in it tho,,, It has got a 3mm steel checker plate floor & very thick rubber mats all over the shop, the lexus V8 is way heavier than the old Leyland P76 V8 i used to use,,,, but shit,,, this thing is just real farkin heavy.

11CAB - August 4th, 2008 at 03:46 PM

plus the big wheels and tyres as well

Mick058 - August 4th, 2008 at 03:50 PM

any photos of this beast?

mackaymanx - August 4th, 2008 at 04:12 PM

Well 3mm checkerplate is 25.55 kg/m2

bond - August 4th, 2008 at 04:34 PM

"i can beat most commodores in a drag race"

i think this is the real reason you're breaking gearboxes lol

well done sir!@

nick

OZ Towdster - August 4th, 2008 at 04:57 PM

But the checker plate is only alloy so you better start looking elsewhere in the big bugger , ie how thick is the floors that were replaced years ago and as graham said those wheels and tyres will weigh a bit compared to the standard 14" sluggers , mind you , you don't even have a spare on board at the moment , so start tossing out those heavy rubber mats and break out the hole saw for some hardcore weight loss

Brad - August 4th, 2008 at 05:14 PM

Dude .. my landcruiser weights closser to 3 Tonne and it don;t brake box's. If you are worried about weight then buy a buggy :>

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - August 4th, 2008 at 05:40 PM

My uncle's dual cab weighs something like 2.1 tonne with all the extra gear it has on it. Weight of wheels, reduction boxes, 250kg of armour plate over engine bay under tray, double shocks on all 4 corners, bullbars front and rear plus the rear roll bar on the tray is full of sand and welded up and the roll bars behind the cab plus who knows what else it usually has in it!!! With all the crap the car carries every day it would prolly have an extra 200kg floating around in it LOL

TheMiniMan - August 4th, 2008 at 07:34 PM

Andrew,,, the back floor in the tray is covered in alloy checker plate yes,,, but the main floor underneath is 3mm "STEEL" checker plate

& yeah it does have 3mm alloy checker covering just about every other place

It does have a bull bar with a big radiator on it & all that water filling 2 pipes from front to rear

The engine won`t be light, even tho it`s mainly alloy, it has 32valves, 32 springs, 32 buckets, 4x cam shafts, & just about 8x of everything else etc etc etc, it weighs a shitload

& yeah the rubber mats all over the shop , well they definately aren`t light weight & they`re bloody everywhere :-(

& yeah big fat wheels & tyres

All the sound deadening slabs stuck to just about every where inside the car, all that thick carpet & fully appolstered & & & & & lucky it`s missing the passengers side wiper arm at the moment, it would weigh even more :-)

It`s going on a diet now, simple as that !!!!!!!!

Each weekend It normally has a full compliment of 6x people plus 6x down hill mountain bikes weighing about 22kgs Each, & all our gear , helmets, full body armmour for all ove us & massive spares box & massive tool box & rather large esky full of ice & drinkahol & yeah i`m fangin it up & down massive hills all day, like toowoomba range & dayboro state forest tracks & such,,, & yeah then Byron bay surfing nearly every thursday/friday,,, well ,,, i know why it`s blowing boxes & it`s not because of all that thrashing,,, it`s simply not got a good enough box :-)

4x4 turbo porsche box comming soon :-) Then the twin turbos to help overcome all the big fat pies :-)

I used to call it "The Muff Diver" ,,, simply because it likes eating boxes :-)
but now i`m going to call it "The Pie Eater" :-)

I`m more used to driving things like this--->

http://madmatt.bigblog.com.au/data/1/8412/image/Photo00405068420071220085207.jpg

Yamaha R1 powered hillclimb special, (soon to have a hair drier added) & it`s only 200kgs, my race mini is about 500kgs, my road mini is about 650kgs,,,

& yet here is this "TANK" of a pie eating kombi,,, when full of people & bikes & gear & tools & such , weighing in at approx 2500kgs puching through the air down the highway at warp factor nine ... Bloody stoopid!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No wonder it holds the road really nice at 200km/h... Big Fat Pie Eater :-)

TheMiniMan - August 4th, 2008 at 07:36 PM

OH & Brad,,, i have a buggy :-)

matberry - August 4th, 2008 at 10:48 PM

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - August 5th, 2008 at 05:37 PM

no box troubles just overheating lol. Isn't that one fo the reasons why most people remove the VW engine and repalce with something else??

i do get a laugh at that sort of thing!!

OZ Towdster - August 5th, 2008 at 05:42 PM

When i was speaking with Neil @ Dyno Day i thought he had the heating problem sorted after the Disastorous start to the cape trip

how can i get one of these, and how much

i NEED one

68AutoBug - August 5th, 2008 at 06:08 PM

1.76 Tonnes

thats some Heavy Dual Cab..

wheels look like alloy...

You must have Heavy Water in the radiator.... lol

a Hole saw will lighten the load... lol

I used the blue Yoga mats for noise reduction and heat insulation etc.. it weighs nothing..

I have it over My roof around the engine inside the guards
inside , everywhere...
and it works great..
I did buy a couple of sound reduction mats but they were very heavy...
and rubber mats can be Very heavy also...

I'll never look at another dual cab the same.. again...
more like Michelin man dual cab... lol
