my post above is exactly how they take the photos, they have a "camera ball" essentially 10 cameras pointed outwards in different directions mounted on the roof of a car, connected to a PC and GPS system inside the car.

the computer links the images taken to the GPS co-ordinates recorded at the time the image was taken, which are then linked to the GPS co-ordinates where abouts on a street map. which then once their databanks have finished the metadata transfers, is shown to you on your screen as a 3d compilation of where you search.

oh did i mention my brother works for google in the states

HOLY SHIT!

THey have a photo of my house with our cars! AND A FULL 3D VIEW OF IT...
Thats a worry...

Mick058 - August 27th, 2008 at 07:56 AM

yeh, i was blown away by the new 'street view'. ITs cool, but at the same time, worrying.

So theres no privacy issues with this kind of stuff?

You can have anyones address and know what their house looks like etc.

there are obviously privacy issues that arrise with it, i know for one that when i looked at my house my parents car was parked across the street and the number plate wasnt exactly blurred, if you really wanted to you could sharpen it and read what it said.

as with any new technology like this there are going to be issues, but its no different than someone walking past and looking at your house, its just more accessable.

It's a worry, imagine how much time you could save when casing joints out..............no longer do you have to waste time and money physically driving/walking/lurking thru various burbs, no more neighbourhood watch worries..........that's a big thumbs up for modern technology :ninja::no:

$2.63 homebrand baja - August 28th, 2008 at 12:26 PM

ooh not to mention the added advantage for creepie net stalkers on the hunt in chat rooms etc, now you really can be a supah convincing, 'family friend/aquaintance' when kiddies naively give you thier home address.........you can even suss out which bushes to hide behind when pre planning your next peeping spree, weigh up each individual site without pesky 'slow drive by's' late at night, now you can take as long as you want staring into peoples yards/homes in broad daylight without the little old lady down the street seeing you and reporting you to the cops!!! With the cost of petrol nowadays and climate change, any way to reduce your carbon footprint has got to be a good thing right?.....................:spin:

Its a good point about the negatives of it but there's positives too. We're househunting from the other side of the world and its great for that
