Where Can I Get Seatbelts Replaced?
Oppressa - June 4th, 2003 at 03:44 PM

I'm re-doing my interior at the moment so I want to change the colour of my seat-belts. The local trimmer doesn't do this (he said it would cost too much to get the licence and not many people request it). Where in Sydney do people recommend I go? And any ideas as to prices from people who have had it done before?

You either
1)go to Repco or the like and get standard replacements

2) go to the wreckers and take pot luck

3) There is a place in blacktown that makes them (cant remember the name) but they are like $200 each. If you want to spend that money ring a baby shop cause they use them to custom make for capsules

When you say standard replacements... would they have 'Beetle standard' or what? Surely they have to be cut to the correct size and then somehow installed?

no they are "standard replacements"

Alls you can get are 300 or 600 or 900mm locking bits or on a stalk

if they are the 300 - 900 belts bits there is a rolling/shortening bit that "takes" up the slack

That is more for a bench seat / rear

Go down to an Auto One and you will see what i mean

autobarn, was in there the other day to look for seatbelts, they do early golfs and beatles. whole heap of colors and rectractables aswell.

Mine aren't retractables though... still be okay?

yeah they had both in the brochure, non rectractable and retractable.

Yeah, legal seatbelts are seatbelts. I had them fitted by a ripoff mechanic for $170, you should be able to beat that. Don't go the wrecker route, though; seatbelts save lives (you can always start another VW project if you still have all your limbs.)
