hey guys. new to the site and i'm enjoying what i've seen so far :cool:

quick question. can anyone tell me where i can find the track width and wheel base of all the beetle models, and if there were many differences.

Hey - excellent question - I'd LOVE to know what the definitive answer for the front track on a 70 Aussie 1500 bug (BJ front, swinger rear). Everywhere I've looked so-far seems to quote a different figure....

i'm just wondering how much they changed over the years and looking at differnt options for re powering. probably look more between say 68 and up through the super bugs

I think you will find most, if not all the aircooleds were 2400mm wheelbase. linkpin and balljoint beetle's, type 3's and bay window kombis were all 2400. Overall lengths are very different due to more or less front and rear overhang but wheelbases are the same. My tape measure and brochures confirm it. I dont know if strut beetles, ghias and type 4's were different.

My original 1302 owners manual says 2420mm, my original 1303 manual says 2400mm. My 1303 manual has many other misprints in it.

1302 front track 1387 with drums. 1391 with discs
1302 rear track 1362

1973 model not sure if its 2 bolt or 3 bolt 1303 front track with 4.5 ET 41 wheels 1394 or with sports wheels 5.5 ET 26 wheels 1407

1973 model 1303 rear track with 4.5 ET 41 wheels 1349 or with sports wheels 5.5 ET 26 wheels 1363

40hp bug, front track 1305, rear 1288

vws big selling point with kombis was theyre so easy to park cos they have the same wheelbase as a beetle....

lol... same wheelbase doesnt make much diff when theres a brick instead of a speedbump sitting ontop of it

my fantasy is to drop a vw body onto a shortwheelbase nissan patrol. They are also 2400mm :dork:

and what is also roughly that wheel base is the late 90's early 00's wrx's. bit wider in track though. might be an interesting conversion. 4WD bug. like a sports version of the kommandeurwagon :lol:
