That lead compare is shit,
with 4000 applicants I thought they would have picked someone better
:grind:
He wasn't even a little bit funny
I fell asleep

We know Boats

Stanley - September 30th, 2008 at 09:17 AM

agreed....I turned it off after 5 minutes.

1303Steve - September 30th, 2008 at 09:18 AM

Hi

I thought it was OK, give the compare some time, he needs a haircut and the little bloke needs to wait a few years before trying to grow beard.

I remember when Rove 1st started, he was very shaky, now he's very smooth.

Steve

1303Steve - September 30th, 2008 at 09:23 AM

PS, I cant believe that they let them do the car testing around Bankstown airport.

h - September 30th, 2008 at 09:36 AM

hey
yeah i was dissappointed to say the least..
unfort trying to be the original boys' clones for the oz edition just did not work at all..
if it continues to follow the current format set n not let them be themselves well i will just spend more time doing something else..
i might try the internet for a change..
btw southpark last night was a crack up.. no internet.. now that was funny..

BiX - September 30th, 2008 at 09:41 AM

I like the lead and warren brown.... don't like the little guy.
They need to learn camera skills rather than looking to their mates for approval on a joke keep looking at the camera.
Its has to scripted (To much!), maybe off the cuff would be better. I think I will give it a few more shows and see what happens.

But as always there are few shows which make it as a clone, they are not australian ize it!!!

Sides - September 30th, 2008 at 09:49 AM

Warren Brown I think did a pretty good job - but then he's been doing car related TV for a while, so has more experience (Peking to Paris for
example)

Charlie Cox needs to stop trying to be Clarkson while trying to look like James May, and the little guy they just need to get rid of (ok, maybe he can drive, but who cares - that's what Stig is for). Got to say though, 10 points for launching the RAV like that !!!

Ford v Holden next week will be interesting... the TRUE test for an Aussie car-nut.

:D

vw_scene_kid - September 30th, 2008 at 10:28 AM

dat old dude had too much hairspray on or something coz his hair looked retarted
and they laughed t thier own jokes and they kept yelling over the top of eachother
how can vw sponsor them ??:ninja:

trickysimon - September 30th, 2008 at 10:37 AM

Def thought it was gunna be better than that. They only have the Holden vs Ford on the second episode so people tune in again even if they didnt like the first. That sure was awesome launching the RAV like that though

Sides - September 30th, 2008 at 10:38 AM

btw - has anyone been watching the "classic/never before seen" TopGear that SBS has had on the last few weeks ???

Amazing how much Clarkson, May and Hammond improved just in the first season alone... if the Aussie show can match that, it'll turn out brilliant I reckon.

_me_ - September 30th, 2008 at 11:28 AM

I'm in the "television business" so i thought i could give some of my thoughts...

They got the studio look down pretty well although the sound recording wasn't too good.

The camermen will hopefully get better - in the studio they were all over the place and on location there was far too much zoomin g/ pulling focus etc. OK, it took the UK Top Gear 5 years to get to that beautifully art-directed look it has now down but Top Gear Oz has it to copy and they were not doing it too well.

It was far too scripted - they were rushing their lines to get their "jokes" in a more ad-libbed approach will be better once they have found their feet...

Far too much shouting - over the top of each other at times, thats just really bad TV, and the director should have pulled them up on this pretty quickly when filming.

There were some others but i'll wait to see if they are ironed out next week. For a 1st effort i'll give it 6/10.

Yogie - September 30th, 2008 at 11:41 AM

We were very disappointed and probably won't watch again. We liked Warren Brown but the lead guy was just obnoxiuos. The little Hammond clone was trying too hard to be funny. If they want to just clone the pommie version, it is a waste of time. Why watch the imitators when you can see the original. I MAY tune in to the last one to see if they improved but I doubt it that I will.

Turbo54 - September 30th, 2008 at 11:54 AM

Why didn't they make the presenters our own not a almost carbon copy.
They need a bogan, a older business car guy like a club presedent of some kind and maybe a woman with there own personalities and that get along but dont if you know what I mean. Aussie top gear is a waste of time at the moment.

Hope they pulled all of the fluids out of the moke before dumping it in the ocean. I fish near there!

Bizarre - September 30th, 2008 at 11:59 AM

the bit on sharks was crap

It was OK i guess
Will watch again...............maybe

Fickle aint i

Jay_1965vw - September 30th, 2008 at 12:33 PM

I thought they were trying a bit too hard... will give it a bit longer for them to settle in though before i write them off.

Brian - September 30th, 2008 at 12:34 PM

The Jump in the Rav 4 was just plain stupid and confirmed what I already thought about the lead Guy.
nothing short of stupid.

I was hoping the same thing!

Overall, I wasn't that impressed. It just seemed like an Australian version of the original with dubious choices for hosts. Why not just stick with the real thing? It's the original and the best.

vwkg - September 30th, 2008 at 12:37 PM

It was definitely not as good, but come on we gotta cut them some slack, first show. And think about the UK guys, how good they are, how long they've worked together. It would be almost impossible to top them.

Give them a few weeks and it will improve.

I dont think we should compete or try to top them. They have turned it into a competition by trying to replicate the UK presenters.

Mick058 - September 30th, 2008 at 01:02 PM

yeh, could be much better - cage thing was silly - too many try hard jokes, and you shouldn't laugh at your own jokes so much - too much fake laughing. See what happens next week.

StenGuns - September 30th, 2008 at 02:46 PM

It was crap

ian.mezz - September 30th, 2008 at 02:53 PM

they need someone like Michael Caton to host the show and tell em they are dreaming:lol::lol:

I have to agree with you here.

I have driven just about everything on stockton over the years of living there. and i honestly thought i was going to see him bite it hard. They were absolute tourists out there with no idea what they were doing.

Matt Ryan - September 30th, 2008 at 04:57 PM

I thought the audience was good, much more involved and more boisterous than the poms.

Regards,

Matt.

trickysimon - September 30th, 2008 at 05:00 PM

I was just waiting for one of them to start making fun of the person with bright red hair in the audience
Simon

Rommel - September 30th, 2008 at 05:24 PM

Clarkson would have been all over that pink haired boy like a fat girl on a cup cake! Still give them time. I hope the OZ team don't develop the hatred the pommy lot have for our beloved beetle....By the way love your site....Restoring a 69 Beetle.

Welcome! Start a new thread and post up some pictures

66deluxe - September 30th, 2008 at 05:40 PM

It was too much of a copy but give them time, i'm pissed about the moke going for a swim i want one of them, but the porsche being beaten by the nissan just gave ammo for the tokyo freaks at work.

cram - September 30th, 2008 at 05:51 PM

yep - dunno why it had to be exactly like the bbc version - same music, same set, same hosts etc etc etc definitely detracted from the whole.

JVLRacing - September 30th, 2008 at 06:30 PM

CRAP!
