what dose "kafer" mean ...

Ok, i am sure somebody here will be able to tell me this one ...

the word "kafer" ... dose it mean beetle, in german ?
anybody ?

Exactly right. The German word for 'Beetle' is 'Käfer'. The VW was not sold officially in Germany with that name, although VW does use it now to describe the Type 1 model.

In Holland they use a very similar word ' 'Kever'. The French call the Beetle the 'Coccinelle'. There are many other local words around the world to describe the Beetle - just can't remember them at the moment!

The proper english spelling should be "kaefer" because of teh umlaut above the a.

I lived with a South African who said in Afrikaans it means "Outsider", or "Foreigner", are there any South Africans on this forum?

kaffa (not sure of spelling) is also african white-man speak for the blacks..

flies were called kaffer budgies..

i used to work with a south african white boy...

That's what I was told, the Afrikaans consider the blacks foreigners. Doesn't really make sense, but then again neither does our attitude towards our indigenous people.
