How much does a VW1600 weigh?
Rommel - October 14th, 2008 at 03:12 PM

Don't know if this is general chitchat or technical. Does anyone know ho much a VW1600 weighs? Thankyou.

I need this info for shipping: weight, height, width & length. My dub and engine are not handy to do these measurments. Any feedback would be apreciated:smilegrin:

Are you talking about a car, an engine or what?

I shipped a 1200 engine from Brisbane 2 yrs ago, it weighed in at 91 kg by itself. I wouldn't expect that there would be that much weight difference between the models? I would quote it at 95kg plus the weight of pallet, etc.

That sounds about right. Thankyou Simon:tu: Now all i need are dimentions. I said to Toll Ipec " about flat4 size" apparently they don't own dubs or they don't have a sence of humor, as that was not good enough:smilegrin:

is it just a long block?
cos u would be amazed how much weight there is in the tinware, generator, carb etc
ive carried 36hp engines by myself but i certainly wouldnt try it with a 1600
no wonder i have a fk'd back...

according to my owners book an unladen '63 1200 sedan weighs in at 740kg, convertible 800kg

amazeer - October 15th, 2008 at 10:46 PM

oh and a US sales brochure I have has a deluxe at 1631 pounds and a standard at 1564. I didnt think those chrome strips were that heavy!

for comparison a 1962 type 3 sedan = 880kgs, a "station car" with 375kg payload capacity was 985kg and the 460kg capacity 995kg. 10 kg of extra torsion bar!

my L has been on the weighbridge at 937kg but its carrying a fair bit of extra weight
if i took my stereo out and put stock seats and engine in it would come down abit
