I have been living in the UK for 6 years and have had the pleasure of many trips in my 1981 VW campervan, Cecilia. It has come time to move home to
Qld and I am torn as to whether to bring my baby home with me. I am wondering a few things
- what do you all think in Australia? Bring home or not?is it really a good idea to bring back an air cooled, 2L fuel consuming vehicle to a hot,
large country?
- what would she be worth in Oz (she is 2L, air cooled, original Devon conversion)
- is it easy enough to get replacement parts and panel (rust) work done on her if needed (she has a few rust spots after a year in Ireland and will
need some panels replaced soon)
- Does anyone have tips on importing her e.g. shipping companies, procedures etc
Thanks for your time and advise. In my heart I would love to bring her home, but sometimes I think perhaps she is meant to stay?????
Thanks for your time and advise
Helen
Hi
I'm not sue about import costs, but have a look at online classifieds and Ebay to see what sort of money a comparable van is going for locally. A
local van will also have had less exposure to rust causing conditions.

If it's mint, bring it, otherwise sell it and buy a better one here.
I'm moving to Ireland for a year in Feb (Castlebar) and might be interested in buying it if you want to sell it in Ireland?
If not take the Devon conversion out, as they are great and unheard of over here (even I have one of the 4 or 5 splitty Devon conversions that have
meandered over). Ship the conversion over and put the $4-5k you would have spent on shipping the car to buy a really nice 2.1l over here to put it
in. They are plentiful and cheap over here compared to splits and bays. With $5 to $8k to spend you'll get a very nice one indeed.
Cheers
Steve
PS. You can buy T3 Devon Decals for the rear and sides on ebay UK, Put the interior and decals on an Aussie car and its all but a Devon.
