Thanks, but they were only taken on my mobile phone. Wish I had photographed more for those that couldn't make it. I'm sure the official photos will be out soon.

phantom - November 3rd, 2008 at 06:00 PM

I attended the Shootout yesterday with my daughter, first time I've been, and it won't be the last. I found the clubmembers very friendly and organised, thanks for a great day!

I thought there might have been more cars on show, heaps parked outside and in the carpark?! And yes, there weren't many water-cooled, but there were some there.

All in all, well done to Flat Four.

thugbug - November 3rd, 2008 at 06:08 PM

Yep, a great effort put in & by Flat Four. As Phantom said, heaps of cars outside & in the carpark. Enjoyed the day,the atmosphere & the goodies i picked up.And the food was good too! cheers

grumble - November 3rd, 2008 at 07:13 PM

very impressive photography with your mobile and nice cars. The question Phantom is- Why were they parked in the carpark and not entered in the show? This is some thing that the Flat Four Club and others have to look at seriously. Is it cost of entries, apathy on the part of Volksy owners or a more sinister reason such as -we can tell who will win without even going to the event so why waste $ that I can't spare on an entry fee? I am not trying to be negative but i have been to quite a few shows and there are always very nice vehicles in the carpark,in some cases the guys have spent a lot of time and all their budget to get the vehicle on the road and are very proud of them,in fact some of them are better than what is on show.(hoping this doesn't open a can of worms ,but this is how I see the show scene Les

t2 - November 3rd, 2008 at 07:18 PM

i think if the show ended earlier more people would enter there cars in the inside show area, was a good day just to long ....personally i had entered my car in the show and had enough by around 1pm

greedy53 - November 3rd, 2008 at 07:29 PM

a good point about the cars in the car park a many times we have asked them to take part in the show and always get the same answer i'm not into showing we as a club have tryed everything to get a better turnup but as the saying nothing works
as for a show being shorter we try same as all clubs but it is dictated by the scoring and tallying after all sheets are in and this is no mean task
i can only speek for myself but i try to go to as many shows as i can and always enter i know very well that I wont win but i do it for the club as usually it's the only way they can raise money to keep the club going so my littly bit of entry fee is a small price to pay to keep these clubs going and my spoet i know that there are many like myself because i meet the same people at them
so to all fellow vw drivers put them in as you will be more than winning a trophy that will end up in some cupboard you will be helping a club to survive and that is a trophy in it's self
hope to see you all at all events
steve

i think this comes back to the old why enter when its the same people winning the categories time and time again. thats why the new format at valla was so welcomed.
i would have gone but i had prior engagement

how did the judging at valla work?was it fast? unfortunately couldn't make valla this year

barls - November 3rd, 2008 at 07:50 PM

well instead of a category it was a peoples choice top ten

yep that sounds good

LIFE IN THE LOW LANE - November 3rd, 2008 at 08:05 PM

But with Valla "he who brings the most friends(or club mates) will win the goodies.

Don't say it doesn't happen cause I have seen it happen first hand not from putting a car on show but from organising and tallying the votes and seeing what is going to win.

VWFREAK - November 3rd, 2008 at 08:05 PM

Great event as always, well done to the Flat 4 committee and members

I recently finished my build,it isn't the best car there but I can buy a tonne of trophies with the money left over from my build. If I want to beat my competition I have to pull my finger out and put the same money and hours into it.Judges score the cars as they are, I'm not going to cry over it.If no one entered their cars there wouldn't be shows to go to.If I get 1 person looking at my creation and taking photos, that's my trophy.support local clubs or the small vee dub scene will phase out!!!:mad::mad:

im not saying im going to stop going it just that the reason why i dont enter my car as its built for me to enjoy and if others like it good for them. i know im not alone in this as this has been raised many times before and its not going to change.
if you want to know who it is thats won the division my car fits into pm me im not about to air this publicly as im not here to cause arguments.
have i enlightened you here.

silver - November 3rd, 2008 at 10:02 PM

I was there an Hour
I don't enter cars (too restrictive)
I don't want a trophy (they looked cheap, should have given everyone free hot dogs instead)
Swap meet was tiny
venue is stale
numbers way down
same old cars inside
vendors down

I think this event needs a freshen up
maybe find a Venue closer to the city
and do they really have to give trophies? give everyone a event shirt instead or a sticker yay!
I dont see a reason to go next year :(
same old same old

newghia - November 4th, 2008 at 06:27 AM

It is true that some cars do win the same categories, but sometimes they have no competition,
if you dont enter your car, you dont compete with them...simple really.
i went / entered for the first time & came away happy.
There were lots of nice cars not entered,(parking lot)
and a lot of the same cars inside / displayed that are at all the shows,
MAYBE these people just really enjoy their cars & the atmosphere...they are certainly committed

each to their own........i still see new things on cars i have seen several times
