Pretty bloody amazing - Shanghai Maglev
squizy - November 2nd, 2008 at 11:39 PM

Just had another week in China - 3 days Shanghai and 2 back in Beijing. Took the Maglev (Magnetic Levitation) train from outside Shanghai to the Airport. I reckon the pics speak for themselves.

Pretty continual acceleration, over a 4 minute period, and a 20 km trip over in 7 mins. Now if the state government could only look a few more years into the future, Canberra and Newcastle would be between 30-60 min trip into Sydney. Now that, would solve any population problems. I don't care how they fund it, and with regular services, would see them keep the price down.

Hmmm...now to awake someone with a vision.

infrastructure in Australia has to problems distance and population (tax base). Shanghai has about the same amount of people as ALL of Australia so these projects are effective for regular usage and ongoing maintenance. Would be nice though:smilegrin:

Unfortunately not. Too much to squeeze into 3 days and nights. Summit in the day, dinners at night. Managed two hours of shopping under the museum and that was it. It was also pretty smoggy, hazy, and drizzly, so visibility was crap.

The interesting part was getting accosted by prostitutes 5 times in the first 3 mins after exiting the hotel after landing.
