Have been nothing but amazed by Chilli, ( started first time every time) her motor had been upgraded to a 1600, gearbox is still under warranty, alot
of money and some love had been put into her when I bought her.
And I have done the same, she had a major service not long after I bought her and Roger said she was sweet....
Picked up the kids from school the other day, and unless I kept her at high revs she stalled..... Seeing as between my house and the school there are
numerous lights an overpass and 1 and a half round abouts, she stalled alot lol
Let me tell you it was the hairiest and scariest 7 minutes of my life lol Thought it may have been dodgy fuel, but I've had dodgy fuel and it
wasn't doing the same thing, one thing I did notice was when I pulled up and turned her off at the school, she made a ticking noise in the motor,
like an alloy head does ...
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated apart from taking it back to Roger at this point in time.
So, have you had a look in the engine bay yet and made sure everything is still connected, wiring and so-on ??? My first suspect would be the wire
coming loose on the electric cut out on the idle jet, which sits roughly in the middle left of a 1600 carby from memory.
By "ticking noise in the motor" do you mean the slow cool-down tick sound that modern cars sometimes make ??? Beetles HAVE got alloy heads btw, but
pretty rare for them to do the cool down tick thing...

I've never heard the VW engine clicking cooling down...
If that wire comes off the electromagnetic idle jet
as was said above.... You only have Fuel from the accelerator pump to keep You starting...
simple fix... How come you didn't look in the engine bay??
what if the fuel line had come off and was pumping fuel onto the hot exhaust????
no fuel filter in the engine bay I hope....
also check the wire on the automatic choke....

Was it happening when you were slowing down? Maybe one of the rubber plugs on the carby has perished and it is sucking air?
is the exhaust system still new ? or recently installed ? they sometimes can make a ticking noise when they first settle in.
Also with the stalling - any smell of petrol in engine bay ? if you have a fuel filter installed, is it blocked or leaking ?
Electromagnetic cut-off switch is an easy check - turn the ignition keys (but don't start engine), you should hear an
audible 'click' coming from engine bay (or have a friend listen while you turn the ignition on/off)
everything makes a ticking/creaking noise as it cools. Listen to your house at night and you'll hear it.
ring your mechanic and tell him what's going on. he'll tell you what to do. I'd say there's some sort of blockage in the idle circuit.
carburettors can be cantankerous and fiddly. A little bit of dirt can cause lots of trouble.
Will look at all that is mentioned above, and yep Steve it was happening when I was slowing down, I can't think why one of the plugs would have
perished when they were replaced only 400 klm's ago, but will check everything we can and all thats been suggested.
Lee- I've never heard a vw engine click on cooling down either but it was the sound I likened it too cos I couldn't think of any other way to
describe it.
Jed - The exhaust is old I looked at getting a new one and the muffler and exhaust place was like too much money $450 go to where you get it serviced
and they can do it for half the price, they said the problem was sourcing, the exhaust isn't too bad I just wanted to upgrade it and have something
different.
Will ring the mechanic again, thanks for your input Pete.
All is well, was just a loose wire, fixed and powering on as usual
Thanks to everyone who had suggestions/advice
Very much appreciated
thats awesome news to hear thats everythings all good now with chilli
