fire extinguishers

As an FYI, Aldi supermarkets have dry chem extinguishers at the moment, appear to be metal brackets for just $18

Would be good for those people contemplating doing a bit of racing (eg the motorkhana and nationals supersprint threads)

Or for people with the fire paranoia that seems to go round with VW drivers sometimes.

my old kombi caught fire... the wire loom at the ignition came loose and the wires twisted and touched when i turned the key. Also one other time doing a small patch of welding and a spark jumped onto something flamable... no real damage though.

A lot have the plastic which isnt acceptable for CAMS

Fire extinguishers with a metal head can be refilled very cheaply too...

Plastic heads cannot be refilled...

the later fire extinguishers usually have plastic heads and plastic brackets...

and the stupidity of that rule is that even the metal brackets arent crash tested. If you have an impact with a 1kg fire extinguisher, say hit a barrier and have a a 5G impact, would the bracket hold? I dunno, pick up a large hammer and give any of the brackets a whack and let me know. Who is to say the metal bracket is stronger than the plastic? The metal bracket that held mine in was shit. Flimsy bit of wire for a catch??? Great for mounting to a kitchen wall. I mounted it into the car using the bracket but used hose clamps to hold it in.

But anyway, thats just another of my rants against rules that were made for the sake of having rule. I've got 100's of them.
