Leaving for schoolies at Surfers Paradise tommorow morning. Anyone got some suggestions on some good things to do while I'm up there?
com on Simon, your leaving yourself open for old codger sermons there, best sugestion I can make is remember what you said in the post about the booze, the only other thing relates to what I would be doing if I was about 40 years younger.
Thanks for that
its fairly common for people to bury their stuff on the beach near a "landmark" so they dont have to carry it around everywhere. id advise
against it, when i was there last year there were quite a few people walking along the beaches with metal detectors at 5am "finding"
"treasure".
the cleanup crew wash the streets every morning at 5am, the police will cuff you and put you in lockup for not getting out of the way.
if your in the mood for being a bit rowdy, definately do it at someone else's apartment. most places have adopted the policy of kicking everybody
out (even if you werent there at the time) for simple things like shouting at people from the balcony etc. we ended up with 10 or so people crashed
on our floor because of getting kicked out.
if your not 18, and even if you are going with someone that is 18. buy all your alcohol before you go to surfers, plain clothes cops hang out in
bottleshops and fine people for supplying underager's with alcohol.
99.9% of the blokes there are looking for a fight, when your in and around caville try and keep to yourself. we saw a full on brawl start because
one bloke called another guy a "dickhead" for kicking a stubby bottle.
its mostly common sense, my apprentice gets back from the QLD set of schoolies today, be interesting to see what kind of state he's in !
have fun !
Cheers. Some good tips there
dude, get drunk, get laid, get arrested. .......
on a more serious note, its been a few years for me but
a) get drunk in your unit and then go outside, not the other way around or u will face fines, a lack of booze etc.
b) there were free packs of tickets to party etc when i went, if they still happen, go, foam parties are great places to meet girls and get them out
of their wet clothes :P
c) as sioux said, dont pick fights to act tough, unless you really do want to get into a fight because it will happen and you will most likely lose
when the guys mates jump in.
d) the best places to stay at are the ground level beach shack style accom. near the beach and not the high rises as u can sneak people in far easier.
we had our curfew reduced to 6pm for visitors because of some late night shenanigans.
Maybe I should have posted this in the Bad Attitude section. Our place is like 200m from the beach I think, so right in the action. There to have a good time, not to act tough. Hopefully there isn't too many of those wankers.
Mate get out there and have the best time of your life, party like theres no tommorow as the saying goes???because in years to come you will look back and have great memories of the times you spent with your mates trust me cheers shane.
try to pick up a chick whos not platnium blonde it white singlet & tiny black shorts, its all i seen last week, oh & dont touch my cousin whos there, never seen so many people trying to be super cool, you could pick the ones that thought they were the greatest thing on earth while at school, then again im not in the age group anymore, go the bungee coaster/vomitron etc etc its 2 blocks north of cavill ave, if your over 18 expect insanely expensive covercharge for strip clubs, should be able to get some similar viewing pleasure for free, totally agree with buying stuff before you get there too, food, booze etc, surfers shops are stupidly pricey, woolies near cavill isnt that bad though, anyway have fun dont get in trouble, look after each other in the group your going with, last thing you want is you or your mates to end up in hospital/morgue or the watch house
Good luck you'll need it.
If you are serious about other things to do rather than the get drunk, get laid get arrested scenario. The goldie has a lot to offer
Theme Parks you canget good discount tickets by buying through RACQ (NRMA eqiv) there is a shop front in Australia Fair
Hire some scooters and do a cruise down to Coolangatta and have a swim at Greenmount
HAve a surfing lesson
Do a fishing charter
If you are into Beach Buggies drop into the guys at Volks-Mod in Burleigh they have a couple of sweet buggies
Day trip to Byron
etc etc
Stay safe watch out for people piucking fights that seems to be a trend. Bring a raincoat the rain has not stopped for 2 weeks
Yeh going to Wet'nWild at some point during the trip. We were talking bout scooters before actually. Do you need a license for them?
Just a car licesnce
Way back in my day, we never had schoolies. Yup. After school was out, we'd sit out on the verandah at night drinkin home brew moonshine till
sun-up and go fetch us some carp from the dam down yonder an cook us a feast fer dinner..
Have fun and live to tell the tale. Your only young once and if ya can't remember what ya did last night, I'm sure your friends will tell ya all
about it!!. Best to avoid all the wannabe hero's out there that think they can handle their piss and take on the world.
Above all, have a great time cos you are only 18 once and......Post pics!!!
- Adam
Hmm didn't think you were THAT old
Don't have a camera, might have to buy a disposable or somthing.
Thanks everyone for the advice.
Pics should be up monday week or so if I have any
Simon, I ain't that old but according to my wife's niece. I am really old (she saw a pic of me and the missus when we were dating about 10 years ago.) Geez. I really have let myself go!!
no schoolies in my day either. no virginblue, flying was out of the question because qantas and ansett price fixing, hadnt heard of contiki tours. I missed out on the Fairstar fad by a few years too.... all I wanted to do was get out and work for $7/hour. what was I thinking?
my apprentice got back today, white as a sheet and full of stories. fortunately no hospital or cops. he did have to get rescued by the water police after him and his mate took their inflatable boat from the $2 shop a bit too far out
Well what an awesome week! Got home today, tired and hungover. Surfers is a great place and alot of fun things to do. Went to the last beach party
last Sunday (crazy, bout 2-3000 people). Went to "Melbas", "Cocktails and Dreams", "The Avenue", some Irish pub near Mcdonalds (can't remeber
the name of it), "The Bourbon Bar", "Players Stripclub" and a few other pubs/clubs that I can't remember. Cocktails and Dreams has intense bass
It literally vibrates your ears, I just cant get over it
Don't think I've ever seen so many good looking girls or so many cars with blowoff valves in the one place Every second car had one.
Wet n Wild was heaps of fun.
Hired a boat and went cruising through the Channels (Never knew how many rich people there were with waterside houses and million dollar boats)
Went for a trip to Byron Bay and stayed at some of our schoolie friends who went there's house. Saw a bare Spllity on a trailer on the way there and
lots of VWs in Byron. Cocomungas, The Beach and Cheeky Monkeys were all great places to go.
Hired scooters the next day and had heaps of fun "scooting" round Surfers.
Surfers and Byron beach were awesome and theres nothing better than getting McDonalds or Hungry Jacks at 4-5am in the morning after leaving the clubs
Don't think I saw any fights at all the whole week (heard somthing about us being the best behaved schoolies?), althought the police certainly were
cracking down hard on things like drinking in public and urinating in allees etc (two of my mates got locked up for 4 hours and $150 fine for it )
Don't really have any pictures because didn't have a camera, one of my room mates took a camera though so I'll see what they are like.
Overall, Great Week!
