Well i am hapy
FINALLY i have got round to putting flanges on some heater boxes.
Use to have this on my old 1776 and it is by far the thing i reckon Mr VW should have done at manufacture
This would be the single mod that i get the most value out of.
Heater boxes that seal 100% and NO fumes in heat mode.
I have to pull my motor over the break and replace the rear engine mounts and put a Berg mount in.
Fed up with the front one.
Replace it and reckon it lasted about a month before the gearstick started rattling again
My CSP shifter would run a close second but i think flanges win out
And yes - i had these ceramic coated.
Took me quite a while to find a decent pair
So i want them to last.
Apparently this coating hlps the boxes work better as well
Anyway - what is the single best improvement you have made to your bug??
Dunno yet,
but roughly how much did cermaic coating them cost??
swapping my standard rear seat in the kombi over for a rock and roll style bed seat, not really performance related but very handy.
t4 engine swap all the way. so much torque
Fuel injection
agreed, i've always "flanged" my extractors, four sets now
sorry can't decide just one of my own favourites, sooo after doing the "big motor, close ratios BUT nothing else" thing first time around, these
all rate before my engine shinanigans these days
these three combined made jumping in the beetle and heading off ANYWHERE i pleased, as easy for me, as those motoring along in their late model
plastic junk
#1 whiteline sway bars & konis (made the car totally predictable and sooo much more corner speed)
#2 disc brakes all round (after 15 years of early drums this was unbelievable)
#3 five speed gearbox (this is truely the best of both worlds for the fun of close ratios and daily economic advantages of factory overdrive)
For the 75 Bus - Berg shifter
For the 71 Super Beetle - Nolethane bushes in strut front end
Same as Damo I,ll have to list a couple
# zf limited slip diff, you don,t realize how much time you lose when you don,t have one.
# close ratio gearbox, every gear change the car is on the money.
# MSD ignition, so easy free hp almost.
Cheers Col
Best thing I ever did was just really maintenance.
I replaced the trans mounts, shift coupling and the bush in the tunnel.
Man what a difference.
A Berg shifter and new bushes in the nose cone, and I needed a box of Kleenex.
A booster on the brakes coupled with the larger motors, makes them go and stop!
My faves are retractor seat belts and wide 5 disc's instead of stock drums.
Then a good size engine with a bit of grunt.

Hi
Stock VW mufflers wouldn't have needed flanges as the lower exhaust pipes were so short there was no flex, but I agree they very much needed with
extractors.
Its hard to choose my favourite but when I bought my Superbug it still had the original Dunlop B7+ tyres, so fitting some mags and good radial tyres
transformed the car.

supercharging my ride
have to agree with dangerous, its the little things that gave the most pleasure
1. shift coupler and shift rod bushing in the tunnel
2. nolathane bushes throughout the suspension of my L bug
3. sucking the gunk out of the steering box and replacing it with wheel bearing grease (and adjusting it up)
but other worthy mods
good radial tyres
likewise, koni shocks
w/l stabiliser bars
comfy supportive buckets, retractable seat belts, tinted windows (i hate the burn through the glass and hot days is great)
i do lust after a bigger engine and 4 wheel discs but interesting my favorite mods are to do with handling first and comfort
