Bizarre - June 10th, 2003 at 05:49 PM

I got my Porsche Club membership turned up today!

Now i have posted off for my CAMS licence bit!

Jak - i still reckon its the 22nd SUNDAY

Hope so - then it wont clash with soccer!!!

Anyway - i think i will be driving a bit slower than you 2!

Any idea how close Paul L's motor is?

Whooo - this is scary!!

jakriz - June 10th, 2003 at 06:40 PM

It's definantly the 21st Barry, they chaged the date on the website as well, I've also personally asked the president.

Everyone knows that I drive like a girl Barry so that I don't get any stone chips..........

regards
Jak

jakriz - June 10th, 2003 at 06:55 PM

How do u think I feel, I've got soccer, mountain bike racing & car racing...........
Jak

fullnoise - June 10th, 2003 at 09:53 PM

If you can't decide between Soccer and Racing let me help you along. Your car could be that extra car we need to get a vw category.

Besides Jak's given up soccer for racing and I played soccer for 10 years and now I prefer to race the bug. The force wins over in the end. Give in to it now.

speedster356 - June 10th, 2003 at 09:54 PM

Better get the entry in blue, $200 big ones! it's another $25 for a late entry...
Don't forget to register the car for competition with the club, just another form, got to the "forms" section of the site.
I'm all good to go 2, just need to change the front sway bar and rear shock settings and get the blue triangle and tow point decals......
Took over 4 weeks for the CAMS licence to reach me!

Craig Torrens - June 10th, 2003 at 10:14 PM

Well, I have just removed my close ratio gearbox and have fitted a stock type 3 box. Will be putting the motor back in this weekend and going for a hoon !!

I will hopefully be running at Wakefield on Sun 22nd .
Can't wait to join you all at the Porsche days.:D:D

fullnoise - June 10th, 2003 at 10:18 PM

Hey Pete (aka speedster)

How did the in car video of the last run turn out? My guess is that it would be a bit boring without sound.

speedster356 - June 10th, 2003 at 10:23 PM

Ur right CT, just a little but it should be sorted for the 21st. Still looks pretty cool thought, I hope they remove that oil on the track at the last turn before the straight!...you know the one!!!!
Oh just remembered...I also need to fit those caster shims I've had sitting in the shed for the last month! Never ends...

Bizarre - June 11th, 2003 at 10:54 AM

OK Guys - i need help and guidance here!

Better get the entry in blue, $200 big ones! it's another $25 for a late entry...
- i think i am up for the extra $25 :( I sent off to CAMS yeaterday express post. I rang them and they said fine. Should be ok. I was reading the magazine last night and saw you have to "register by the 9/6" and you needed tio supply your CAMS number. Cam i late register onthe day?

Don't forget to register the car for competition with the club, just another form, got to the "forms" section of the site.
- ok another thing i didnt know about. I will look there now. Stay tuned for further questions

I'm all good to go 2, just need to change the front sway bar and rear shock settings and get the blue triangle and tow point decals......
- silly question. All the stickers. Where do i get them? and what do i need. Blue triangles, yellow quadrants, mauve hexagons?. Do i get a choice in colour?
What about the BIG #'s? Do they hand them out or sell them on the day?

Took over 4 weeks for the CAMS licence to reach me!
- you better be joking!!

squizy - June 11th, 2003 at 11:02 AM

Hey Barry....have you made the choice yet......soccer.....racing.....what's the winner?

BTW the caps look great - can you mention to Richard about the bumpers for me. Ta.

Squiz......

Bizarre - June 11th, 2003 at 11:32 AM

IF i can get the above sorted i will go racing.
Still have a few hoops to get through yet.

I will send you a u2u squizzy

Bizarre - June 11th, 2003 at 01:09 PM

Ahhhh!!!!!

this is getting hard!

OK...talking to my Lotus mate who does track days and he says to check the "sub rules" for the day?

Things like
Fire extinguisher
seat belts to certain standard????
helmet to certain standards

Jak, CT or Pete can any of you guys fax me a copy of the thing the scruitineers will look at????

Peter Leonard - June 11th, 2003 at 02:50 PM

I'm watching this thread REAL close y'all, *sits on edge of seat* cos i'm also in the grindingly confusing process of makin sure I don't get knocked back when I turn up to putt around...
I believe a belt to hold the bonnet down wrapped around the handle/bumper is req'd, as is a blue triangle on the bodywork adjacent to where the battery is located, and a fire extinguisher should also be mounted in the cabin. thirty bucks gets you an auto fire extinguisher, which can be screwed down to the tunnel between the driver and passenger seats at the front. mine has a quick release bracket/strap on it, and it's kinda cool to have one in the car anyway.
what sort of ballpark figure do you get slugged with to race on the day usually? it seems most events are on the weekend :( but I'll just have to see what happens with work. much rather be percolating around a track than working, but somehow i haven't figured out how to pay for the pleasure without earning anything... dammit. i'll keep you posted as far as the 'free money' problem goes, but meanwhile i'd like to see the scrutineering forms too :D
btw blue, i'm still counting on you for the second set of hands one day with my wacky steering probs :D
:alien

speedster356 - June 11th, 2003 at 04:13 PM

Just ensure that the exstingisher has a metal (not plastic) mounting. I'll get you a set of stickers if you wish as I need two sets anyhow, I'll bring out on the day.
The belts I used for the Spyder are just a webbing dog lesh about 350mm long with a clip on the end. (so the lid can only open to a maximim of 200mm if the factory latch fails) Just do what CT does and tie the front lid with a strap to the bumper.
Peter, I'm thinking of heading to Wakefield Park for a "drive day" soon, they have them on weekdays and only about $80 entry..called "no speed limit days". check out http://www.wakefieldpark.com.au
If anyone is interested then we should coordinate a day.
Here is a guide from the Porsche club http://www.porscheclub.org.au/dl/Competing%20in%20club%20events.pdf
This is what I'm using.

speedster356 - June 11th, 2003 at 09:23 PM

Just checked again blue, u only need the blue triangle for battery isolation. I'll make them up and bring on the day.
here's a copy of the scrutineering list.

OvalGlen - June 11th, 2003 at 10:24 PM

Dont know if they have outlwawed it, but we use to use white tape stuck on the door (Do they sell white Racing /Duct tape ? ) numbers such as 17 or 11
or 71 were fairly easy to mock up.
Have you got double spring return on your carby / throttle body..?

jakriz - June 12th, 2003 at 07:16 PM

Everyone relax, U can get the No.s at the track for $3 each, they also sell the blue triangles as well as tow stickers if so desired. U only need a $20 fire extinguisher from Big W, a metal strap for it is desired but they will not knock u back without one. Make sure your helmet has the Aussie standards visibal on the inside, u do need a tie down of some sort, can soemone please remember in case I forget to bring a roll of contact & some sissors for our headlights too. Make sure u have some extra springs on your carbies, they check the return, no oil leaks, no major wheel bearing wobbles & make sure your battery is tied down, I got a metal tie down from autobahn for $10.
Normal seat belts are fine but i woudn't use anything but my harness. Roll cages are not needed either.
It's also a good idea to bring some spares, valve cover gaskets, accelerator cable, clutch cable & some extra fuel line & clips (u never know). Bleed your brakes & check the reseviour (is that the right spelling?) change your oil & do your valve clearances, fill it up with petrol & just enjoy yourselves, that is the main thing that I must stress the most, we are not racing for sheep stations, we are just there so we don't get speeding tickets on the streets. It doesn't matter who is the quickest or the slowest, all that matters to me is that we have a ball & we all get to drive our cars home at the end of the day.
regards
Jak

speedster356 - June 17th, 2003 at 10:34 PM

What a great day. Tires are number one on the shopping list as of today for the Speedster, I spent more time looking out the side window than the windscreen!
